rear hatch problem

my rear hatch handle wont work anymore. The handle wont disengage the lock. It has progressively been getting harder to get it to release the lock until now i can squeeze it as hard as I want and nothing. How do I get to the guts of the handle? Any help would be Much appreciated. Oh yea its a 99 sr5.

go from the inside and remove the door panel (take off the pull strap) and the big metal panel behind that. Hope it's an easy fix.
