Rear heater bypass and removal.

Anyone know if I totally unhook and remove the rear heater core will the system throw codes? Also, How do I bypass that system from the engine compartment? I cant find gen iii pictures or much info.

Fairly sure you can just cap the lines where they come off the heater hoses near the passenger side of the firewall, or hook one side to the other to bypass...shouldn't throw any code...

There will be no codes. The rear heater is not hooked up the ECU.

If you haven't, that would be a good time to go ahead and replace the radiator if it's still original, you'll be draining a lot of coolant anyway when you crack those lines open.

I found a drip of antifreeze on the lined running to my rear heater when I bought my truck.

Found the lines were rusted and leaking so I traced them back to the firewall where they came up from the frame and changed from steel to a rubber "T" section. Capped off, secured and tight. No more leak.

No codes, nothing changed just now there is no heater back there. I recommend doing it and know from experience it won't hurt anything. Just be sure to cap the lines properly with tube end plugs and clamps.

Don't want to be leaking fluid after she gets warm....

Thanks, got it all figured out. Just used the existing hose to make a circuit between out and in and just left the lines open because they now lead nowhere. removed the heater from under the seat entirely, so now probably will use the mounting holes to put in a first aid kit case or general storage compartment.

When I herculined the floor I took mine out so I wouldn't damage the blower with water when I wash it out. I looped the lines at the firewall rather than capping them off (don't think it matters either way). It does take a little bit longer to heat the truck up when it's cold but oh well. It's worth being able to hose the interior and not worry about snowmelt in the cab

You, siir, are psychic. Radiator popped about 6 months after you suggested i replace it. Good call.
