Rear Latch Fail Troubleshooting

I put my summer tires on top of the rack with a couple ratchet ties washed the car and then I have no "gatch" to the rear latch. maybe the water froze after ( 17 degrees here) but it did work right after the wash maybe the gatching to tight on the top made the top area slightly out of plumb or it just failed. heading out from Anchorage Thursday AM. It's locked but not tightly shut.

Thoughts appreciated. Called dealer to get it in prior to departure as well.
