Install them with the heim on the frame and the bushing on the axle with the zerk facing up. Thats how mine are and there is plenty of room.

That's more then enough only way the zerk is going to break off is if something gets lodged in between the zerk and axle or if you somehow flatten a mounting tab.
how difficult was it to change your rear LCAs?
Did you rotate your pinion up any?
Is there no way to grease the Heim end?
You dont want to grease heims. You want to keep them as clean as possible and lubricate with a dry lubricant.
