Rear left wheel wouldnt spin

I have a 97 4runner limited.

Theres been about 6in of snow in ohio the last couple of days so I engage Hi4 on my way to the base.

4x4 Light comes on and I think everything is fine until I pull out of the driveway. I accelerate and notice Im fish tailing and not really moving forward much.

Apparently my right rear wheel is not spinning. Its essentially being dragged. I shift to Hi2 and same thing.

Any ideas? Is it a differential problem?

Maybe a stuck caliper or leaking diff fluid frozen in your parking brake. See if it unsticks when it gets warmer.

It is probably a brake issue.

Probably the parking brake is seized against the drum.

If you can, try backing up a foot or so and it should break it loose.

Yep since its a 3rd gen its either one of two things, parking brake or the axle seal is leaking

Excellent! Thats exactly the problem, the parking brake is looser than most vehicles.

I just bought this vehicle used as a winter driver since the summer time im normally on my motorcycle.

Didnt know this was an issue on 3rd gens. What exactly is causing the parking brake to seize against the drum? Is there a fix?

On mine, if I powerwash (I think it's the right) rear wheel, it'll get stuck. It doesn't happen when it rains or snows. Backing up slightly always does the trick and frees it.
