Rear lift gate motor question

Alright, so I want to know how well the motor that closes the back down holds up (2008 4runner). I take people to and from school every day, and they slam the rear lift gate every time they get their things in and out of the trunk (I make them put their stuff in the trunk because they throw their crap inside and scratch everything up. I've only had it for 4 months, and I'd like to keep it kinda nice for a little while.) Anyways, are you not supposed to slam the lift gate, just let it down gently and then let it close on its own? I'd really like to avoid having to spend money to get the motor replaced. My Toyota dealership's prices suck, and so do they, so any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I have an '05 and mine is still going strong......so far.
I make the effort to show people how you just lower the gate and let them see how the motor just sucks it shut.
It still gets slammed at times and it kinda burns me up a little.
I don't know the relationship between getting slammed often and needing a motor replacement. I'm sure it takes a toll.
Pisses me off too when people used to getting in and out of Fords and GMs slam my doors.
