The ball hinge rusted and broke off inside the right rear liftgate support on my 2007 SR5. The dealer wants $200 just to replace one. I've found OEM parts online that run around $125 a piece. Some websites say the Strong Arm brand can replace the OEM parts. They are much more inexpensive but the connectors look like they would require modifications.
As far as I know, the original lift support is permanently attached to hinge on the top. The ball joint broke off inside the support on the bottom. I was expecting to find a bracket that I could pop in order to remove the ball joint from the support but there is none!
Is there a less expensive way to replace both liftgate supports or am I stuck paying the dealer $300-400?
