rear locker question

my 00 t4r sport has the factory e-locker and I completed the "gray wire mod" so I can use the locker in 2wd. However I am afraid that my wife will accidentaly engage the elocker while driving down the interstate. I know this would be catastrophic so I was wondering if there is a fuse controls the elocker? I would just pull that fuse until hunting season.

thanks

locker won't engage while going faster then 5mph.

Plus, teach her how to use the e-locker, the transfer case lever and when to use it.

Yep there is a safety feature built in electronically that it will not engage over a certain speed, apparently its around 5 mph.

Does your wife have a habit of just randomly pushing buttons while she's driving down the highway? The location of the E-locker switch on the left side of the steering wheel is pretty far from any other switch or control. In fact, the only control that's near it would be the dashboard light rotary knob.

I guess if you have factory fog lights the switch is on that side, too, but it's much farther down and closer to the window, isn't it? Also, isn't the fog light switch illuminated?

In my experience, you really have to "hunt" for the button in order to find it, so I wouldn't worry too much.

^ This. I've thought the same thing too after I did the mod, but just to be sure I understood and trusted the 5mph safety, I tried it myself (although was only cruising around 15-20 at the time). If you push the button above 5mph the light will blink "fast' and the locker will not attempt to engage unless you drop back down below 5. Hope this helps!

When my 3 year old plays in the 4runner, she pushes every button and turns every switch. If the gear shifter wasn't locked, she would move it. It sucks that when i put her back in car seat, everything has been turned on and out of adjustment. Once in while she hits the e--locker button.

FYI, OEM fog light switch in on the head light switch stalk.

Not to jack this thread, but I've always been curious as to what scenario warrants a 4WD vehicle to engage a locker when in 2WD. Better dougnuts in a snowy parking lot? My thinking would be that if I couldn't pass through/over something in 2WD, I would engage 4WD. As a last resort, I would engage the rear locker. I guess I'm crazy as everyone else seems to have done the blue wire mod, and I haven't.

I used it in other vehicles when I had a 2wd tagging along on a run I was leading. If I got to a spot that made me put it in 4wd then I knew to get the strap out for the 2wd or that it would take some good spotting. I think the main purpose of the mod isnt to use it in 2wd but also allow in 4HI.

THE benefit of rear locked 2wd is great doughnuts and letting the tail hang out in the snow.

I'm running an ARB but in my opinion the "gray wire mod" is a waste of time. If you need a locker, then you should be in 4wd. If you need 4wd while wheeling then you should probably be in 4Lo. 4Lo reduces the strain on the engine and transmission. I know a guy that overheated his auto trans because he was wheeling in 4Hi. By the time the trans temp light comes on, you have some serious heat.

Your right, you are jacking this thread. :) I use e-locker all the time with out 4wd. I have the manual hub locks on my 4runner so if I want to use 4wd, I have to get out, lock the hubs and get back in. So using the e-locker button is so much easier.

There has been times when i have parked on the side of the road and had one wheel spin in some mud. Push the e-locker button and drive right . The other times are when i have to cross a ditch at an angle. If one rear wheel drops down, looses traction and that is far as she goes. I hit the e-locker button on drive through.

Good points!
