Rear Locker really important?

YIKES... I recently noticed the bearing whine coming from my rear diff after I got the exhaust patched up on my newly purchased 99. Used diffs for these seem to be hard to come by up here, and everything I've laid my eyes on is 10 times crustier than my cali transplanted truck. I've come to the conclusion I will most likely have to have it rebuilt, and was think I want to add a locker at the same time but damn... for 2 k maybe not.

Lunchbox lockers are $250-400 and usually don't require any additional parts. They lock/unlock automatically. I've never used one but I'm currently looking into a Powertrax No-Slip.

Yes, you need one if you want to wheel it on anything remotely difficult.

But.....

You can always add it later.

It will likely be the best money you spend on the vehicle in terms of added capability on the trail.
