Rear Locker Worth??

Let me have his telephone number. I 'll call him up and set him straight. $1200 for an axle with 140k and no warranty is a bad deal.

Now if, he will install it in your 4runner for $1200, then i say go for it. (ecu, wiring, switch and axle assembly).

if you get the wiring harness and the ecu to go with it $800-900 for the entire axle assembly with all wiring (id even trade him ECUs)

He also said it is geared 4.10

Honestly, 800 or so for a non-rusty locker, with wiring and everything is an acceptable deal. May not be a screaming deal, but I don't think you are getting ripped off either. That is a little more than I paid (including shipping to the NE), and I didn't get the wiring and ECU (didn't need them as I already had a stock locker). And an ARB is going to run you alot more than that when you include the air system, unless you get it used, which is hit or miss.

Are you sure it is a 98 4runner and not a 98 tacoma? I know, kinda dumb question, but e-locked 4.10 runners are very rare as they only came in manual trans, so it is worth asking if it either a tacoma, or if it's actually a 4.3.

I just found a guy with a wrecked 1998 with 140k miles and is selling the RR DIFF LOCK rear end. He said he wanted $1200 for it and I laughed and told him that was too much so then he said make me an offer. What is the most you guys would pay for a locking rear end of that model and mileage? Thanks in advance for any replies

Hub to hub locked rears go for about $600 here, plus or minus.

It is Asheville for ya. Pricing is utterly crazy for most Toyotas there (I have an aunt in Hendersonville).

With Xmas coming up and if you have cash, email the guy back a week before Xmas and see if he is ready to barter.

Also, open it up and count the teeth or at least least look in the door jamb for it to say 03A.

Be careful, most of the elocked 4runners have 4.30s - about 95% from what I've seen. It seems the manual tranny elocked 3rd gens have 4.10s more commonly, but this one is an elocked auto. I'll bet it's 4.30. Verify it first. The spin test is more reliable than gear code charts on the internet.

Yeah you know how it is here in western NC with 4runner prices... People price 4runners and parts like they are brand new... Dude never even replied back with a counter offer to my $600 offer HAHAHA

That dude also sales parts on E-bay. His e-bay pricing near dealer. I would pass all together. That guy buys these 4runner wrecks at ridicules prices and tries to recoup his money. Serves him right for paying too much for them.

A friend of mine just bought two e-lockers in the Denver area... one complete 3rd member for $400 and one with a complete rear axle (pinion bearing needs to be replaced) for $500. Both are 4.30 ratio. He's putting them in his highly modified '91 truck to replace a set of auto-lockers.

Thanks Singtoe - I'll ignore everything else he has posted. Now that I think about it I think I talked to him one time before about some other stuff which he wanted crazy prices for. Didn't realize you was in NC also... GO HEELS!!!!!

For $1200 you could have an arb. and probably some leftover change.

Not to mention onboard air.
