Rear parking cable change!

Has anybody ever changed their rear parking cable before or seen s thread about it? I've googled but haven't found anything. I went to have my left rear axle bearing changed and the dealership told me my parking cable was stuck engaged even when I disengaged it so that apparently wore out ny bearing. If anybody's ever done this it would be greatly appreciated if you could tell me some how to and what not. Looks pretty straight forward but I'd love s writeup if there is one. I just wanna know how hard it is because I work in retail and don't have much time off since its the holiday season. Dealer wanted 325 to change it or 200 if I brought the part.

It's automatic and I dont park on inclines so it doesn't seem necessary right now but they have it disconnected and ziptied. Thanks!

Do it yourself! Go to pretty much any parts store and pick up Toyota Tacoma, 4 Runner & T100 Repair Manual covering Tacoma (1995 thru 2004), 4 Runner (1996 thru 2002), and T100 (1993 thru 1998). It will literally walk you through any repair job that people can do without really any mechanical knowledge.

It's most likely the bell cranks that are stuck.... Search the forum for stuck bell cranks, or replacing bell cranks... Pretty easy... Just make sure you pack the new parts with plenty of silicone grease. It will prevent it from happening again in the near future.

I changed the 96's out using a Dorman tru-torque part from Advance auto about a year and a half ago. Looked exactly like the original, made in Japan and under $50. There's pics and how-to in my build thread for a 96 m/t . It was super easy to do, hardest part being at the brake lever.
On a 96, post 1369...will at least give you an idea

The rubber boot near the left rear wheel had broken and water and grit were getting in, causing the cable to not release. At first it was only when it froze, but near the end it did it any time I used it. Got kinda annoying to get under the truck and pull the cable loose again.
