Rear Pillar Speakers

My 2005 SR5 forerunner has the dual mirrors in the rear and someone told me that in other models that is where a pair of speakers go. Any idea on the size? 4" maybe?

You would need the upgraded JBL Sythesis 10 speaker system with 8 channel amp to use them. The "way back" speakers are 65mm full/wide range units high passed around 170-200Hz, just like the upper front door speakers and the center dash speaker. In the JBL Synth system, those two back speakers are actually wired in mono to one amp channel. I've seen at least one member who replaced those speakers with your mirrors...they don't contribute a whole lot sound since the rear doors are also running full range.

In my opinion the mirrors are much more functional than a speaker of that size, that far away from the listener. Remember for a good soundstage music from the rear should be "fill" so not to move the ideal listening position to the back of the vehicle.

I was thinking more along the lines of a pair coax run with a sub, Run them off my 5 channel amp that would balance the sound all the way in the back. Not 100 percent sure have to check how to best run this off of the Pioneer 4200 DVD (this is the one I want to purchase next month.) thanks! Andy

The size of the speaker itself is approx 1-1/2", with a mounting bracket that is about 3 inches from tip to tip.
