I have a 2004 4-runner sr5 v6. In June of 2015, I noticed that my driver's side rear wheel was heating up and I could smell the brakes from that wheel only. The caliper was replaced although they really could not find anything wrong with it. About 6 months later, the problem returned on the same wheel. This time they replaced the caliper again at no charge and also turned the rotor and replaced the small brake line feeding the rear driver's side wheel. New pads all the way around too. Problem went away again but has now returned again and 14 months later. This time the shop wants to replace the caliper again with a Toyota part this time.
I worry that something else is causing this, but what could it be? Three bad calipers?
Should I have them replace with a Toyota part or could this be something else?
It does not lock up on the rotor and I don't even notice it until I smell the brake and can feel the heat. The shop said about 80 degrees hotter than the other rear wheel. Brake pads are not worn more on this side either at this time. It is also intermittent. No obvious noise or tugging from the rear. Any help appreciated.
