Rear rotor stuck... need help

Working on the rear brakes on a 2004; driver side went easy, but passenger side rotor is stuck and I can't get it off. I have a good amount of separation with the M8x1.25 bolts but there's still something preventing it from coming off. Parking brake is off.

I adjusted the star nut on the driver side, but for the life of me I could not see one on the passenger side. Any help? I'm running out of daylight!

I would say it is likely your rear service (i.e. emergency) brake in contact with the drum in the top hat. You have to back it off with the star wheel. If you try to force it off, it will jack up the drum brake and you may not get it off.

That would be my guess. Knowing cars, but not Toyo's specifically, I wonder if you could back off on the adjustment within the ebrake linkage? There might be a nut somewhere that you could loosen to minimize the preload. Given the unusual pedal operated ebrake, I would guess a single cable would go back to a Y where two cables both attach before going to the rotor/drum assy. That might give you enough play to get it off. If it indeed works like I'm guessing it does.

From your pics it looked like the rotor/drum is not being pulled out evenly by the M8 bolts. The top portion of rotor being too far out compared to the lower half. You'll need to slack off top bolt and align rotor back to be straight on the vertical plan. Then turn bolts ( T & B ) equally, a couple of revolutions at a time, alternating between both bolts to prevent cocking the rotor and jamming it hard against brake shoes hence preventing further outward movement. Hope this will work for you.

Agree that having it straight would provide max clearance but I think the reason that it is not coming off straight is because the service brake shoe is hanging on the one side that is not moving. Really need to find that star wheel on the back side....as I recall, it turns the opposite direction of the wheel on the other side. I have forced the rotor off before by cranking the bolts and banging a heavy hammer on the inside of the rotor on the side where it is hanging. Totally jacked up the rotor (which I was replacing anyway) and the brake shoe mechanism which had to be rebuilt. So It can be done.

When you are banging on the rotor, best if you can not let it get cocked too badly as previously indicated.
