Rear Seat Audio

I just picked up mu 2005 V8 Sport today and I have the remote for the rear seat audio, but no headphones. If I got the remote should I have also gotten the headphones? I have searched, but can't find the answer. I am buying through a dealer over seas so I am still waiting for the window sticker. Thanks.

The head phones are sold separately. I think some people have bought aftermarket head phones and it worked.

Deepblue - if it has the LCD on the dome light then it should be the RSA (Rear Seat Audio). You can probably buy the remote and headphones from the dealership or a website like www.partznet.com

When I picked up my truck from the dealer it said it had both the RSA and the headphones on the window sticker. Neither of them could be found in the truck so I talked to the sales manager and the dealer ordered both of them for me.

Im pretty sure that if you have the display, you have the rear audio. My truck came with a remote, but the headphones are an extra item you have to buy. Maybe sometime in the future if I have kids i might get the headphones, seemed pointless now with just me.

yeah I got the remote and a holder.... and I mooched one off the car dealer.. so I have a free pair of headphones..... doesn't do much though...

yeah mine didn't come with any either. can I just run to circuity city or best buy and pick some up? will they work with any wireless headphones or do I have to order them from the dealer?

I happened to be in the back of my runner the other night (wife was DD...) and I was playing with the RSA and found that it was very useless.

What is the point? You can change stations with presets or scan and turn it off and on but no volume? Wouldn't that be the point? IDK I just never really checked it out before. Do you guys actually use the RSA?

Volume is in the headset. I'll excuse you for your durnken state :

I have only use it to show passengers who asked, "Why do you have headphones?" or "What's this screen in the back for?"

I guess if you have kids riding in the back you may get more use out of it. They can be listening to some trash CD while you listen to a station of your choosing.

Seems to work OK for my kids. They like it. Only problem is they sing their songs at the top of their lungs, so we still can't hear anything up front. BTW, I got my headphones and an extra remote off of eBay. Much cheaper than anyplace on the net or the dealer.

I went to Circuit city tonight and picked up a cheap $30 audiovox IR headphones and they work. I guess as long as they are IR then any brand will work. This will be usefull when the wife and I go on our cross country trip. she loves books on tape. Me, not so much.

Front Seat Use

Brand new member here and this thread caught my eye as I also just bought the Circuit City headphones.

I just wanted to comment about using them in the front seat. I was hoping that they would work in the driver's seat so I could listen at night when the rest of the family was sleeping. Turns out they are not real good for that. The signal broadcast via infrared (as opposed to a radio signal), so they are pretty much line-of-sight. I was able to get get reception from the driver's seat by tilting my head just right, but that wouldn't work while trying to drive. It was probably pickup up some kind of reflected signal anyway. With the RSA on, you can see the infrared beams on in the lower portion of the screen.

Just thought this might help some out there make better decisions.

BTW, it works great for our kids, they can listen to something totally different than what we have on.

I think they designed it to not work in the driver's chair as legally you're not suppose to have headphones on while driving. It works fine in the front passenger and rear seats. Also, stick your head out the window and it stops working :

They may not work very well in the right front seat. I think they are designed for back seat passengers only. My wife tried them and they kept loosing reception. May work better if you put the seat all the way back and/or recline it more. IR headphones require "line of sight" for reception.
