Rear Seat Noise TSB

There have been a number of posts regarding a TSB for the rear seats -- number is NV001-03 according to some of the posts.

Does anyone have a copy they could post or provide a link to? It does not appear on Alldata, and I'm trying to get my dealer to fix the noise and all they do is tighten the rear seat skid plate bolts. That lasts for about 5 miles, then gets as bad as it was. They don't even acknowledge that there is a TSB.

It's 40 miles each way to the dealer, so I want to go with directions in hand next time, probably the end of this week.

I have a 1,500-mile trip coming up and I can't stand to listen to that noise the whole way!!

I found the TSBs on the NHTSA web site (http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/tsbsearch.cfm) and finally found TSB NV001-03. It's for the front seats.

In fact, they don't have one listed for the rear seats. Alldata doesn't either.

For any of you who have had the rear seat worked on, can you provide either what was done? The squeak is back and it's driving me nuts!!

By the way, the NHTSA site allows you to print off the TSBs. Looks to be useful.

Good idea, Thai. Posted what I found on the NHTSA site (not a subscriber of Alldata).

Please note that some of the ones listed in the thread are not available on the NHTSA site, and they don't seem to be on the Alldata site, either. Is there another place where a complete list would be?
 
John, no i don't think there is any other links. I guess the Toyota dealership can print out a complete list.

Just came back from the service department at the dealer after an appointment for this problem.

I had a long talk yesterday with the service manager (his prior job was at a Lexus dealership) and gave him a customer's impression of how the service department was presenting itself to the public. Using my nicest voice, I also explained how he could make a couple of minor changes and really improve the way they present themselves.

Then I scheduled the appointment for today.

They took the suggestions to heart, because I saw a much different service department today.

As far as the rear seat noise, it was really obvious and they searched for a TSB and called their Toyota tech support contact. There is no TSB in the works for this noise.

They traced it to the latch on the passenger side -- it needed adjusting. Based on the drive home, they may have it fixed. I'll be on a long trip over the next 2 weeks, so we'll see if it holds up.

For anyone else with the rear seat noise problem, maybe this will help you, too.

OK, the noise came back on the trip. The service manager has ordered a latch assembly which is on backorder. He also has new information that a TSB may be in the works for the rear seat squeak.
 
Any update? did you get the new latch installed? I have the same problem. Can tell the noise is from the passenger side rear seat. Started about 1 month after purchase now rattles/creaks around every little bump or turn. Other than that the truck is perfect. Please let us know what fixes this problem for you. thanks.
 
New latch was installed, but I only have about 150 miles on the truck since then. So far, no significant noise that I can find -- occasionally I hear a squeak when the truck flexes, but I can't repeat it consistently to determine if it's the rear seat or something else.

By the way, the latch took about 45 minutes to install.
 
Okay, now I know I'm not crazy or being anal.

I have a similiar problem with '03 Sport Edition V6. The back rest of rear seat (passenger side) squeaks, creaks, clicks, all the above during accelaration or when I make a turn or hit a bump. Something causes the latch to move.

I performed a simple test. When I fold the rear seat back rest down, the noise goes away. When it's up the noise returns.

I had the dealer take a look at during 7500 maintaince and the damn seat wouldn't make the noise. Go figure! They told me to bring it back by when it makes the noise. Luckily, the dealer is on my to and from work.

Seat latch

Wrap a piece of tape around front of metal hoop that rear seats latch onto. This will eliminate the noise. Normally, the right side is the culprit but the left side is suseptible as well.

Got the latch installed and no recurrence of the noise. I sometimes hear a noise in the general area, but it may be unrelated.
