rear shock options...?

ok guys i am in need of rear shocks again... -bilstien is being a bunch of male chickens and not wanting to stand behind their products even though they clearly are aware of a product flaw and issue with the 5125 shocks we all know and use -the same shocks sold by Toytec -this is in no way Toytecs fault, or a bad reflection on them, as i did not buy my shocks from toytec. anyhow its a very common shock for us to run with lifted 4runners. i have eaten through two sets of these now -3 shocks have blown on me. i have talled with bilstien about this and they told me how to correct the issue but will do nothing to help other than sell me more shocks that cost more. or the same shock that is on back order until late aug. they offered to rebuild my shock at $75 ea plus shipping, and a 6-8week turn around from time they receive the shocks(basically the same amount of time, and cost for me to wait and buy new ones).

so im looking to get some input from you guys as to other shocks to use that will work with my application. i have a full CBI rear bumper with swing out -tire carrier and dual fuel can holder along with hilift jack. i also have full skids and sliders on the truck so im on the "fat kid" diet. i need a shock that will hold the weight well. i want one that is on the stiffer side.

part numbers would be good if you have them.

also id be in the market for anyone selling their 5125s, as i need a fix for this to be a daily driver and i was informed by someone at bilstien on how to get around the issue we think im having. -but i do not want to buy from them anymore due to their unwillingness to work with customers on issues they know to be a problem.

What is the issue with the 5125s you reference? Ability to perform with weight??

What about LC rear shocks? They're used for lifts on 4R rears and they're fairly inexpensive vs the bilsteins, like $40 a piece.. at least you could go through a few before comparing to the price of 5125s
I'm not really sure how much weight they'd be good for, maybe somebody who has them can answer that, but id think they'd at least be an option.

yeah, -i dont want you feeling bad about it, it has nothing to do with you. its a flaw with the shock and an issue i have experienced and corrected the way i was instructed by bilstien.

Do you know exactly what's happening to cause the issue..?

that is part of it, but i dont think thats causing the blowing issue. i think that will cause premature wear though. these bilstiens have a threaded rod, that threads into the lower "eye" mount. that rod has now separated twice on me. and i was told to put some tack welds onto the rod and eye to hold it and prevent it from turning. -i have had several people tell me this is the way to fix that, people on here, dealers, and a person from bilstien itself. so i have done this and shortly after doing so i blow the shocks. what i came to find out was that doing the tack weld or welding the base, will cut into the travel of the shock... and then the first time the shock is compressed close to its maximum range, but still within the max range it damages the seal and blows out. bilstien says too bad so sad. so their "fix" for a poor design is what actually ends up destroying the shock. they know this and after prying and complaining i was able to get them to admit that they have had several issues with this problem, and its not isolated just to the 4runner, its a much bigger problem that they are unwilling to address...

anyhow i was told some fixes for this issue, but yeah they can only be done before the shock is welded, and the parts cost about $30 more... but yeah no mention of it on their web page or what not, you have to hunt around to find it or call them and ask for the "high density foam" bumpers/cushions and install them with the washers that hold them in place.

needless to say im less than impressed with bilstiens customer service. oh and by the way guys. the shock that toytec is selling PN 33-185590 is for a 1979-2005 gmc/chevy 1/2-3/4 ton pickup and older k5 style blazers for the front. so if any of you have issues with this shock, tell bilstien this is the truck you have the shock on. they say the 5125 series shocks only have a 90 warranty because they are not an application specific shock, but when i was talking with bilstien the guy i was talking to told me thats what it was for, and that it does infact have the warranty. so i may try to warranty my blown shocks via that route as i may or may not have been advised to do/try.

and the more i think about this, no the ability to hold weight is not an issue, as the fronts of GM pickups with V8s are much heavier than the rear of our 4runners will ever hope to be... so no, that is not the issue here. -the rod twisting and separating is the issue here, and apparently is fairly common.

I run the same shocks, I love them. They install in the factory location without any modification. They can be bought through Wheeler's Off Road, [MENTION=87036]YotaDan[/MENTION]. Comparing them to a 5100/5125/5150 is like comparing a Howitzer to a pellet gun. Totally different leagues, different price points also, but like most things, you get what you pay for especially when it come so most performance parts. The SAWs that Todd and i run have a 7/8" shaft on them, they are beefy.
