Rear Slider - I Built a Box Enclosure...

I know the rear slider really wastes a lot of room, but I do like the pull out feature to get at my "basic load" stuff so I decided to build a box on top of it for more cargo/luggage space. I figure I can always remove the slider later if I need the room.

The only really interesting part of the build is the rear panel you can't see in the pics. I mounted it at an angle parallel to the rear seats so it could hold the maximum amount of gear inbetween, but still allow the seats to fully recline as well (if you remove the stuff, in this case a compressor, bottled water, etc). It also keeps things from falling and getting in the way of the slider.

I secured the carpet covered wood shelves to the cargo hooks using wire and tensioners, keeps it tight and solid.

Hope this inspires some better builds!

Dennis.

Looks good. That's a great idea, especially for travelling. Is that the Toyota cargo mat that you have in the back? I ordered one from the dealer, but haven't gone to pick it up yet.

Yup, it is. I might take it out since it just takes up 0.25" for no real reason...

Looks good and blends in nicely. Also serves the purpose of the privacy screen.

I have the same salomon shoes to. haha

I have always used some sort of box in the back of my trucks, important stuff underneath and boring luggage and jackets on top.

Thanks for posting these. I've been trying to figure out a custom box and these pics have helped me rule a few things out. I am now certain that the sliding tray is going to be cannibalized for parts and incorporated into some bas****ized version of a truck vault.

I was and am still considering a Truckvault, but the cost vs. space it takes up is a major consideration for me. Too much for not enough?
