Rear Spoiler -05

I just relizied my new limited didn't come with a rear-spolier !@#!?????

I looked on the website, they had two options...anyone have any idea which one to pick?

1-Rear Aerodynamic Spoiler - $399
2-Rr Spoiler w/Center High Mounted Stop Lamp -$200


I think the read spoiler should be STANDARD EQUIPMENT! err

The spoiler is not standard equipment on a Limited or on any 4Runner. However, in many regions, Limiteds come equipped with the spoiler, but you still have to pay for it. For example, in the NY/NJ region, the Sports and Limiteds usually come with the spoilers from the factory, but still listed as an option. I think the aerodynamic spoiler is the new design of spoilers on the 2005's. The standard spoiler is the one on the 2003 and 2004 models. If you want a picture of both, just tell me.

LukeSKY, if you get a 4rnr w/out a spoiler, and decide later to add one, you may be adding a 4th brake light to your vehicle.

Just wanted to let you know that some people might see that as a sore thumb.

the brake light on the hatch can easily be disconnected if you add a new spoiler. and the spoiler hides it from view pretty well also, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I know some people were not able to install a spoiler if it was not factory fitted. Apparently the hatch of the ones with spoilers are strengthened. SO if you can change the order do so now, or else you might have to swap the whole hatch.

Here is a picture of the spoiler on my 2003. The only difference between the 05 and 03 is the little hump on top. The spoiler on my 2003 was from the factory. The aftermarket spoilers have the brake light in a different location.

I find that it does, but it makes the tailgate a dirty, sloppy mess.

I would love to know the reasoning behind the spoiler change..... I wonder if Toyota has any functional reason for putting that hump on top of the spoiler.

Hitman, I don't know if it is my imagination but the ride in the 2005 with that spoiler seems a lot quieter than mine. The crossbars on both are in the same position too. I don't like the looks of it though because that hump just looks out of place.

you are comparing two different trucks. i don't see how the addition of a spoiler would cause the wiper to work differently.

The Spoiler would knock the wind down to the washer blade and thus it wouldn't stick onto the window good, thus leaving water on the window...

I believe the spoiler has an opposite effect. My window remains cleaner and my wiper works without complaint with a spoiler.

Hmm... the new spoiler looks like it might do a better job of directing airflow (catching more air) and keeping the rear window a bit cleaner.

aesthetically speaking, I don't like how the new spoiler looks. I prefer my blocky 2k3/2k4 spoiler
