Rear Springs for a heavy load

I'm not able to do much research on my own do to my location.

I'm currently heading cross country, and need to get some rear springs installed asap. My current SuperFlex springs are bottoming out on the slightest bump. Can anyone help me out with recommendations for rear springs that can handle around 600 extra pounds? My rear bumper setup weighs nearly 300 pounds on its own.

I'm looking at trying to get a set of OME861's since they should do the trick. Another idea is to install airbags, but I'm not a huge fan of them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We're currently in Colorado, but we heading out tomorrow towards the Tetons.

OME861 are the way to go. Many members with heavy rear bumpers and lots of gear run them, including myself.

Here's mine with several hundred pounds of gear in the back, plus my sliders, full skids, roof rack, and 4x bumper with swingout and a trasharoo with 3 bundles of firewood. They hold weight very well.

Don't know why you don't like airbags but I'm more than pleased with mine. Allows me to adjust spring rate for the load I'm carrying. AirLift gives you a lifetime guarantee too.

That's what I was hoping to hear. I'm running the 4xInnovations rear with swing out, and their site claims some ridiculous low weight for it. Now I need to find coils, shocks, and a shop to install them.

Another point, if you can, find some spiral cable wrap and wrap it around the progressive coils at the top. Unloaded at 40 mph I had a horrible noise that was the coils every so slightly touching each other and vibrating. I put some of that spiral wrap on and it fixed it, but it is nearly impossible to do with the coils installed. Off the truck it would take 5 minutes to install...

The SuperFlex come with some type of rubber around them already. I'll most likely pull it off for the new springs.

Where did you get your coils from?

New off a member here who never installed them, but I imagine most of the vendors here carry them. Probably could get them on amazon or so too. You might be able to swing by one of the off road shops like toytec or so tomorrow in Colorado and pick up a set. I bet they'd install them too.

Already called them. They don't recommend those springs, and don't offer installs either. At this point we're a good ways west of them as well. I may need to find something in Utah.

My peepers are tired but your fire wood is in the Roo? Genius!!! I was just pondering ' where the hell am I going to put the wood?!' Thank you for thinking out side the box! And........springs!

I found some OME 2861, but not sure if they're the same.

Everyone just refers to them in a short hand as, "861s".

I just put those on my rig as I should have my 4x Innovations rear swing out back from the powder coat guys on Tuesday. I purchased them via Amazon.

Pic is no weight, no bumper, no spare. I don't think they are harsh even without anything in the rear. I imagine the ride will improve a bit with some weight out back too. Oh, I have no BL either.

Yup, same thing. All the OME springs have a 2 in front of them so it kinda gets dropped when we talk about them.

Yessir, that's the main thing I keep in the trasharoo. Usually some firewood and a little trash. It held 3 bundles of firewood from Salt Lake City to Moab, through fins and things, around the white rim trail, through tower arch trail, and down onion creek trail until we found a campsite with a fire ring. Then we drove the rest of it in the trashroo to Sioux Falls, SD where I took it off because we were staying at a motel and I didn't want someone to steal it. It rubbed a few holes, but it's been patched. I don't recommend driving it too far on the interstate, I think that's what tore it up.

I don't think they ride too bad with the bumper, when I have all that gear back there it rides amazing. Especially when aired down.

Love my 861s. After changing my rear suspension 3 or 4 times, I have these with the LC shocks and love the combination! Found my springs new on ebay.

OME 890 on my '97 give roughly 2.75-3" lift empty, no added bumper. Hard ride empty, nice ride loaded.

I have the OME Heavy Duty Constant Load, forgot the number but I'm sure it's the ones mentioned in the thread.

Great ride, not too hard at all (though the mechanic that installed them was traumatized by the harsh ride... go figure). Just drove from L.A to Columbus OH - or to KS where I broke down- with a trunk full of stuff since I was moving, a full length roof rack with two jerry cans and a roof top tent. No issues at all.

Ran Toytec superflex. Switched to OME 861. Have rear bumper/spare tire plus storage box. And I love it. Flexes good also. To the point where the driveshaft hits the gas tank.

Looks like I'm going to order some OME 861's, and a set of Tokico black shocks to go along with them.

Now I just need to find a shop along the way to install them.

Another option is Cruiser Parts, but I will need to have those shipped to a shop for install. I'm currently talking with All Pro about stopping by their shop for the install. We'll see what happens.

If they won't install them these springs can be installed pretty easily if you have a few tools on you. I used spring compressors to put mine in, the kind you rent from autozone. That's way easier than flexing the axle side to side and trying to force them in.
