Rear springs install?

I'm trying to install new springs on right now but don't want to mess anything up. I just need to remove lower shock bolt and the sway bar link, correct? After that I can just pivot one side of the axle to get the spring?

I wish I could help you out with that one. I also need rear springs pretty soon. I've replaced the shocks last year but now "knowing" that I need springs as well. I'm sure others will include their .02 soon. I'll be glued to this thread for awhile. :)

Yep, thats it

that should drop you low enough to get the springs out, when you put them back in, do the driver side first since the panhard connects on that side.

you shouldnt have any problems though.

Ok so I removed the lower shock bolt but the rear shock is still seated..it won't droop down. What am I doing wrong?

pull the shock off the stud...

the lower shock has an eyelet that goes over a stud, pull it or grab a mallet and gently knock the shock off that stud.

Hey guys

Ok I got the shock off and un bolted the sway bar links so the sway bar is loose. I tried jacking one side of the axle to try to get the spring out but no luck. I can't get the spring out. Is there a trick to this? Am I missing something?

should just come out... the suspension should be unloaded with the shock and swaybars discoed.

you did both sides right??

have someone stand on the drum if you need more play, but stock coils should slip right in... shoot, my 8 wrap LC coils slipped right in

edit: this might be a stupid question, but you have your jackstands on the frame right??

I had a hard time getting my stock coils out, and an even harder time getting them back in with spacers on them. The axle was stretching the brake line and my breather line and I still didn't have enough room unless my 185lb dad stood on a drum and pushed down as hard as he could. Definitely did not "slip" right in.

if your brake line is tight then bend the tab down, but theres no way that should have held your suspension from fully dropping...

and the 8 wrap coils are like 3 inches taller than the stock ones... you put the driver one in first and then the passenger one,

Im not saying you dont have to wiggle it, but its not hard at all.

you're not trying to do it with the truck on the ground are you..? uh...

there shouldn't be anything holding the axle up, wheels off, frame on stands, then jack one side of the completely floating axle and the other side should have enough for the spring to come out...

lol post pics of what you're trying to do...

yeah, you cant do it with the wheels on, the axle on the other side has to go all the way up. cant have the wheels stopping it.

your frame is on jackstands right? you dont have the jackstands under the axle?

Just to add to what has already been said. once the runner is on the jackstands (as high as they will go) remove the tires, shocks and swaybar, then use your jack to lift the side opposite from the spring you are changing. Then do the other side. once both springs have been changed lift from under the center diff. reattach swaybar, shocks, and then put your tires back on and you are done my friend.

OK, the easiest way to go about removing the rear spring is to leave the tire on the side of the axle that you are not removing the spring. I left the tire on the passenger side of the axle and removed the driver side - vice versa. I found this method to be super easy! I didn't even need to jack up the side of the axle, I only let the diff go down slowly until it gave me enough room to slip the spring right out.

I recently had my rear springs and shocks changed out at a shop. I noticed today that one of the rear springs is caught on the axle base plate. It is slightly out of alignment with the notch for it to sit in. I don't really want to drop it off at the shop to get it adjusted. Was hoping I could do it myself. Is it possible to get enough tension off the spring without disconnecting the shock and sway link to just rotate the spring. I have to rotate it about a 1/2 inch counter clockwise. I'm hoping that with just jacking up the truck on the frame and jacking up the opposite side of the axle I'll have enough slack to rotate the spring.

Spring compressor folks. And disconnect the panhard bar at the axle. I had zero issues getting my toytec springs in this way. Just compress the spring, slide them in, and release the compressor. With the panhard disconnected at the axle there was more than enough room for the stock springs to fall out.
