Rear stock muffler resonator questions

hey i was wondering if anyone has just cut off there pipes right before the rear resonator?? if so will this be an easy way to give me more tone? when my truck is started and im standing next to the rear hatch i can hear it trying to rumble at a low tone and was wondering if i cut it off if it would be louder. thanks guys!

I got a muffler shop to cut off my resonator and add a curved pipe out the side(check sig) and it deepened it and increased sound.(and thats with a little baby v6)

nice im about to do that i got a friend that can cut and weld metal.... and i can get a curved rear pipe at home depot or lowes for cheap. but how much did it cost??

I thought the difference in loudness/tone after I removed my was marginal at best. I have the V8. I haven't stood outside the care while someone has rev'd it so I don't know for sure what it would sound like outside the car. Inside, it sounds very similar to stock to my ears.

Oh I just thought about the fact I also have a flowmaster 40 on mine.:ybrick: But i had it before I took the resonator off, sooo. With an aftermarket exhaust or just muffler the resonator will make a difference once taken off.

yea, use either the cherrybomb or flowmaster 40 series muffler, cut the resonator off & add a bend to the side. i think thats the sound your looking for. the flowmaster combined with the cut off res. will give that deep throaty sound. you can hear them here. i dont know i am still thinking of a vortex but idk about a cherry bomb arent those super loud? if u do mean a glass pack??

look into a Thrush Welded muffler, they are made by Dynomax and sound very similar to Flowmaster 40's and you can get them for about $30 on Ebay

Made zero difference for me on my V6. Now if you take the two cats after the sensor and the muffler out....that makes a difference

yea but doesnt thrush only have an offset entrance and 4runners need a center entrance. also to clear it up it is 2.5" for the muffler entrance and exit right??

Right I forgot.... you gotta be somewhere where they don't care about that stuff. I just got a speeding ticket in SC a few days ago for 82 in a 70...guess they're not that lenient where you're from haha I heard glasspacks are nice but I really don't know enough to say which one to go with.
