Rear Suspension????? (FJ to Icon)

I am finally upgrading my suspension on my 2003 4runner to an Icon setup from the FJ springs and shocks i have installed right now. My problem is when I installed the late model 2010 FJ shocks in the rear I had to widen the mounting holes for the FJ shocks to fit because they are larger. Now that I am about to upgrade the shocks in the back can I still fit a normal 4runner Icon shock or do I have to get a newer model FJ Icon shock because I already widened the holes where they are suppose to mount? Just not sure if the shock will be to small now because i had to widen the holes where it mounts or if it even matters. I definitely do not want to buy the shocks and find out the hard way if they will fit or not.

How much larger is the hole you made? I'd think your bushing would compress enough on the hole to make it not an issue.

Wow, this is a problem. But I thing there is a solution. Buy the shocks you need and be prepared to buy steel sleeves to go around the shock mount to make up the slack. Not trying g to flame you but this is why we do not drill out holes without having full knowledge of the consequences my friend.

If it were me I would submit this question to icon. I am sure they have had this issue before.

That's what I was hoping because the hole is just slightly bigger not a huge difference, but the smallest things can always through everything off. I've seen alot of people that have done the FJ modification to their trucks I just havent seen anyone swap it out for something else when they are done with the FJ's

You couldn't have said it better my friend. I got excited and rushed to do it right when I got my runner last year it was great for a quick mod, but i definitely didn't think about the consequence in the long run especially now that I am trying to upgrade. I'll try and talk to Icon and a couple shops tomorrow, but just trying to feel out if anyone has run into this problem yet before.

Logic would dictate that if you had to drill out for fj shocks that icon would have fj shocks that would fit nicely. Hey worse case scenario icon needs to custom valve you a rear set. Not impossible. Just a little more money. Good luck and let us know. You won't be the last wit this issue so share us with your leaning on this issue.

Buy a pair of weld washers and enlarge the hole to the inside diameter of the washer, It'll tell you what size, and then weld it on. It will strengthen the area and give you the size hole you need. :guitar2:
