I took the easy way out......i just ordered new shocks off trdparts4u, for both sides just incase

Well all three local Toyota dealerships didn't have any of the parts. Looks like its going to be sitting there for a while.

So just an FYI, a local dealer should be able to get these parts in stock the next day. They will cost more than an internet dealer, but if you are in a pinch and actually need your vehicle daily, then a local dealer is the fastest way to get parts. Not all parts are a day away, but every one I have needed has been (including those parts).

Yup, I had this happen. While I was on a wheeling trip. Because the roads were so bumpy anyways I never realized anything was off until I got back on pavement and by then my shock was screwed as it had snagged the ground while I was driving and bent it back. It bent at the top shaft a good 20 degrees or so. I had a really bouncy ride for a few days till I got it fixed.

On mine it was the bottom bolt that loosened off and came out, the shock bottom just popped off from there.

3 different local dealerships had none of the parts and the major warehouse they pull from didn't so they wouldn't have it until friday or next week.

Seriously? Are you out in the boonies? These things are so popular out on the west coast, I would think the distribution system would be pretty saturated out there.

I'm in Eugene and Portland is their main warehouse.

Yeah you'd think they'd have more in stock. One dealership said they had never ordered that part before.....he was referring to the bolt or washer, i don't remember. And portland only had one so they needed to order from another location too. such a pain.

So how far can I drive with one shock? I can't get the top bolt off at all. I used vice grips and everything. it wont budge

you can drive with no shock thats no problem becasue the coil will hold your truck up, just drive slow and turn like you have a cup of water in the car, best way to get the top off is to heat it with a torch pb blast it and use a bolt extractor socket

I don't think its stuck like that.... i just can't get enough leverage to get the bolt loose

I drove like 4k miles like that.

I will just drive it then and hopefully get that other shock out so i can get the new ones in.
