Rear sway bar removal

I have used the search function but could not find anything definitive about how to completely remove the rear sway bar from my 2000. I have removed the endlinks and the bushing brackets so the bar is completely free but I just can't seem to manoeuvre it out from under the vehicle. Dropping the drive shaft didn't help either. The reason I want to free it out is because I want to clean up some rust that had formed where the bushings sit. I am installing new bushings.

I assume many here have done this before and would appreciate any help.

Removing one of the rear tires makes it easier to wiggle out. I did passenger side last time and it took some finagling but I got it. Maybe try driver side so you don't have to worry about hitting the gas tank on the far end.

I was able to get it out with the body jacked up a few inches (rear axle still on the ground) and the driveshaft disconnected from the diff. Slide it over, drop it down below one lower link, then slide it out that side. It does take a bit of finagling...

I did drop the drive shaft but had not lifted the truck. I'll give it another shot. Thanks.

Mine was pretty easy to remove without doing anything, thought I do have a 4 inch lift in the back. Should just be able to jack up the rear frame to gain a little extra clearance. The harder part was putting it back in because I couldn't remember what angle I took it out at. Note that angle while you are taking it out...

I just wanted to thank those who offered advice above. I managed to quite easily remove/re-install the rear sway bar after implementing the tips offered.
