Rear tailgate disassembly.

I have looked everywhere and cannot find not one set of instructions on how to take apart the rear tailgate. :shrug: I'm having problems with my rear window (it doesn't work at all) and I'm trying to figure out if I need a regulator or motor, or both. I have looked around and I do not see how the heck I'm supposed to get past the cover of the tailgate. I have a 2000 SR5.

I posted my solution a few years ago. Terminology is tough to keep the same and search for. Good luck.

Thats it! I was able to get the panel out of the window track but I had my window down so I dont know if that helped it come out or not.

Thanks! Helped a lot! I pulled off the cover and noticed a harness wasn't connected so I plugged it in and voila! Window works!

Thanks for this info. I have a 2000 4Runner and the rear window, window wiper, and defroster were not working. I tried resetting the windows, and checked the fuse box, and to no avail.

After reading this thread i decided to take apart the back door (which seemed cumbersome at first, but was incredibly easy). Low and behold the wire bundle was not plugged in. I simply plugged it back in and everything is working like a charm now.
