rear view mirror gets in my way

Has anyone else notice that the rear view mirror on the windshield gets in the way? I find my self having to look around it to see traffic. I never had this problem in my Supra or my 96 4Runner...but it really seems like the mirror is in the way..almost like its stuck right in the middle of the windshield. If I am at an intersection...I have to make an effort to duck my head and look under the mirror to see if there is any traffic to my right *LOL*

Its just a minor annoyance.

Maybe you have the mirror too low or the seat too high? I position the two so that my eyes are at or below the bottom of the mirror.

I don't have that problem but I leave my seat all the way down. I can see perfectly through my mirror. Do you have the auto-dimming mirror or the standard one?

i have the standard, non auto dimming mirror...I haven't adjusted the height of the seat..I'll look at that after work I didnt even know you could move it up and down...i thought it was just front/back, tilt, and lumbar...shows you how much i change the seating position *LOL*

I have noticed this too. I have the standard mirror and I have my seat all the way down, Im a touch over 6' and it is kind of annoying to have to look around your mirror when you are at a stop sign and someone is to your right. Oh well, a minor inconvenience in an otherwise awsome vehcle.

Well, once you get the seat positioned, there is no need to move it.

For the mirror, on other vehicles I have been able to raise it by moving the pivot nearest the windshield. To do that, you usually have to grab the mirror support, not the mirror itself. Raise it as high as you can without the mirror interfering with the visors. Then, once it's set as high as it can go, grab the mirror and reposition it to your liking.

I was, however, able to do as you said hinge the mirror up at the first joint closest to the glass...moved it right up out of the way Thanks...I wasnt aware that it would pivot right there and I didnt want to go pulling on it and break the glass or something stupid *haha*

I have to say that between the low hanging rear view mirror and the "can't see over it " hood scoop, I'm lucky I get where I want to go without running into or over something.

Glad the suggestion worked for you. Since I've learned to do that, I've had to use the technique on several rental cars, too.

Dont forget the affect that the location of the gas door release has on the offroad ability

That really gets to me...they dock the 4Runner points in an off-road test because they didnt like the ac controls and the location of the gas door release (which as far as I know is in the same place as MANY vehicles)...the 'cant see over the hood scoop' is a joke, i'd like to slap the bastard that said that...then the suv's they rate higher than the 4runner have serious 'bads' (weight, brakes, underpowered, steering is unpredictable) yet they are ranked higher than the 4runner whos only flaws were the ac controls, hood scoop, and ac controls.... Plus they said they didnt like the way the 4Runner's brakes 'feel', yet in their own test it out stopped EVERY suv...I just dont understand...obviously Toyota doesnt do enough advertising with their magazine to deserve a higher rating
