Rear Wheel wobble

I have a wobble in my right rear wheel. I was told that this was my bearing starting to go. It was also mentioned in the rear axle bearing replacement thread that the bearing could also cause a wobble.
I dont hear any noise or feel the wobble from inside, but a buddy of mine following me on the highway mentioned it. I also noticed the wobble when I put the runner on jackstands.

I hope you can bear with some maybe stupid questions.

1. Is this really the bearing or some other deep rooted problem? I dont hear a grinding or howling noise, nor does the wheel seem hard to spin. Just a wobble maybe half an inch while spinning. Axle bent? If its the bearing, I can probably get it fixed in a day or two. But a different problem will mean the runner is out of commission for a while.

2. Is it still safe to drive? to wheel off-road? I'm going on a longish road trip with the family and I'm hesitating about taking the runner, although I'd love to since there might be a chance to go on some light wheeling.

Your feedback would be very much appreciated.

sounds like a bent axle shaft... I've been through one myself. Then again, if you don't do anything out of the ordinary I don't see why it would have bent. Your axle seal would have gone before your bearing, in most cases. If it was your bearing you would be hearing it, trust me.
