Rear Window Felt

The piece of felt the goes on the outside of the rear window(liftgate window) has broken off. The hatch was "completely" replaced 2 years ago due to a collision, so it seems odd that this piece would break so quickly. Has anyone else had this happen, and do I really need to get it replaced?

I've had this piece come off as well. You don't need it replaced unless you want to, by any means, your hatch won't leak or anything. That felt was for clearing the window of fog or debris, since it rested on the glass. It serves the same purpose that the rubber lining on the power windows does.

My 03 started falling apart from the Arizona desert heat and sun. I just bought a replacement. Less than $20 for the whole part.

Same issue here on an '05 kept outside in south Texas. Found the replacement part. Looks like it's simply a matter of popping out the old portion of lower window trim and fitting the new strip in its place?
