Rear window gets dirty FAST!

I'm not sure if it's the shape of the 4R or the rear spoiler, but the aerodynamics sure causes rain and road spray to accumulate on the rear window quite rapidly. I have never needed to use the rear wiper on any vehicle as much as I do on the 4R.

So is the rear spoiler merely aesthetics or is it supposed to actually perform a function other than hiding the wiper blade?

RainX the rear window, then all you have to do is hit it with a hose or even a little rain will wash most stuff off....but yes it does get dirty quickly. I had a 'spoiler' installed on my old Bronco but it would physically capture/direct air coming off the roof down across the rear window, keeping it very clean.

The rear spoiler is there for around 5-8 additional horse power, that's about it.

That's funny because I thought exactly opposite, in Ford Explorer and later Escape I had to use rear wiper more frequently.

After I put a couple coats of wax on it my gain was closer to 10!

I live in a new construction area, so the roads are always dusty. The amount of dirt collecting on my window is hideous. Also, the spoiler gets in the way when using a brushless car wash, therefore the entire rear of the vehicle needs to be wiped to remove all the dirt.

Regarding Rain X, does that hurt the window? For example, I heard the 4R has a special coating already placed on the windows at the factory for repelling rain. I'm worried I would remove that coating by using Rain X. What do you think?

if this oem rainx solution on the windows was true and it was an issue you would hear alot of complaints on the forum because millions of people use rainx, myself included.

I don't think anything out there is going to change the amount of dust collected by this design. As soon as you turn on your rear wipers your reminded that it to falls short on area wiped clean.

The 3rd gen windows had a water repellent coating. It was listed on the window sticker as a standard factory feature.

I'm not sure if the 5th gen has the same coating.
