Rear window goes down but not up

Hey just wanted to thank everyone for the advice on the 91 4Runner. I love this truck!! I was wondering if anyone else has this problem. My rear window will go down just fine, but will not go up. The switch in the center console and the key in the back door both act the same way. It works great going down, but acts like it doesn't make a connection for the up. If you constantly push the switch, or turn the key, every once in a while it will contact and the window goes up fine. Wanted to know if it was a bad motor or would both the switches be bad? Thanks for the help.

I think bad relay or the connections to it.

Same Problem Here

Although I know the problem. My driver side latch does not engage on the tailgate. I have to apply light....and I mean light....I can just look at it hard and the contacts make connection...pressure. Try pushing ever so lightly on the tailgate to see if it will go up with the key...if this is the case check your contacts.

Thanks everyone. I think I will try to see if all my contacts are tight and in good condition. You guys rock!!! Love Toyota's

same here until

May sound funny but after a good romp in the woods it started working. Not the greatest now it sometimes stops about an inch from the top. Key does not even work so I think I should keep watching this post and try what the pros say.

If it goes down it's not the motor.
Doubtful if the up position of both switches went bad.
What is common is UP the relay.
The control module is located behind the side panel at the drivers side rear passenger's feet.

Also, there is an inter-lock switch to prevent it from going up w/the top off.

Up but no down!

Please help this is so annoying! It goes up with the key but not down. I had to take off the back pannel unhook the motor and attach power from the battery to the motor. Then I reconnected it and used the key it goes up perfect. No down

i had the same prob in my 87 it was the "sensor" on the drivers side latch that wasnt engaging. to fix it i just simply by-passed the switch by "bridging" the two outside connectors on the plug.

So it isn't a relay I just went out and picked on up. I just haven't got around to tearing down the inside of the car. Thank god the motor isn't shot. I was going to install a 3 position togle switch to quick fix it but that seems "Jimmy Rigged"

I mean technically I could just cut the wires at the window motor and hook run some wires to the dash board and make it work like that.

Yesterday I cut out about 10-12 feet of wire for my lights up front took out the relay and fuse and all kinds of wireloom the grounds. Unecessary bull ish IMO. My lights work just fine off of a different setup I installed and there is an inline fuse for the power supply.

Bought a used relay on Ebay for 27.50 shipped and keeping my fingers crossed!

So what's the updated, did the new relay fix your problem? Where in CA are you anyways? I am in Northern CA (San Francisco) and I'm having the exact same problem.

I had this issue and my problem was the limit switch. I disconnected it and everything works fine now:)

My issue is that mine goes up but not down, when I turn the switch around and plug it backwards then it goes down. So I ordered a new switch thinking that the switch is broken.

My issue was the window lock switch. I think I spilled some soda on it a while back and it got sticky. I just gave it a good jab with my pointer finger and it fixed it.

I'm in so cal near knott's berry farm. I'm going to take her out 2 azusa this weekend and play in the dirt a little. Keeping my fingers crossed again.

Rear Window Up but not Down

Ok, I've read all this and tried lots of that and nothing.
1990 4Runner. Rear Window works perfectly up and down when jumpered.
Window goes up with the key (or grounded at the relay board connector)
Down relay just clicks with the key (or grounded at the relay board connector)
With either of the latch switches shorted the board beeps for up and just the relay clicks for down.
I have tried two different relay boards with the exact same effect. Up but not down.
I have not yet tried swapping an individual relay because it seems to function fine when jumpered. If I apply ground to one side of the relay coil and tap +12V on the other side and the window runs down right now. It seems unlikely to have the same relay bad on two random boards but I am warming up the soldering iron right now to try that..
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

Rear Window Up but not Down update

Ok I swapped the #3 and #4 relays and got the exact same result. Up works fine and down just clicks the relay.
Any ideas?
Thanks
