Rear window got scratched! What to do???

The first time I let anyone touch my car other than having the tires rotated at 5k, my frig'n window gets scratched!

I took my car to a car wash on Friday. Apparently when they were drying the back window, there were rocks or some other debris in the towel they were drying the window with. Now there are circular scratches all over the back of my window!

So, I have a couple of questions....

1. I paid cash and for the life of me, I can't find the receipt. This doesn't bode well for my case against the carwash. I have an appointment on that side of town tomorrow so I am going to go talk to them to see if they will at least be diplomatic and try to help me out. Has anyone had a similar experience and if so, what was the outcome?

2. If I am on my own, which there is a good chance I am, are there any products that will take hairline scratches out of glass? Even if I have to eat it and go to a detail shop and pay to get them buffed or polished out, I will do it. Just didn't know if this is a feasible option or not.

Well, leason learned. I try to save a little time by not washing my 4R myself and this is what I get. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Get some glass polish and give it a try.

I would recommend Zaino's Glass Polish

Thanks for the info Josh220. Do you have personal experience using this product by any chance? It claims to remove small scratches and imperfections in the glass, but no one mentioned it's ability to remove scratches in the testimonials. Just curious.

Might want to go over your entire truck with a fine tooth comb. If the same rag was used on other parts of your truck then there may be some other damage you might not be aware of yet.

Good point. I gave the rest of the car a quick once-over when I noticed the scratches on the window, but I'll look over it more closely when I leave work today.

Ah dude...why did you do that!?!?!?!?

Bottom line is people do not care unless it is theirs...sad but true...If it were you doing the washing this would never happen...

I guess you learned a hard lesson --> Wash your own vehicle...

Trust nobody and you should be fine

This coming from a guy that just took delivery of a new 08 Runner with damage on it...I am going to live with it because based on my experience they will just make it worse trying to fix it....

I dread taking my vehicle in anywhere to get anything done to it...they do not care...

Yup, I'm fully aware of that Dbone. I thought the same thing and kicked myself afterwards. It's just one of those places where they send it through the machine, then vacuum the interior and dry the exterior. Easy enough, right? Wrong I guess.

Hey, Josh is right, use the Zaino's I have some...it takes EVERYTHING out of windows...I'm in love with it...It took out all my hard water spots and tons of surface scratches and spots...

It will take some time to work it in real good, and kinda scrub for a bit, but it should come out...if its not TOO deep, but it cant hurt to try it for just $10...

Cool, I will certainly look into buying Zaino then! I wonder if it works well getting the small pits from rocks out of windshields?

I went by the car wash to talk with them about my window yesterday. The manager was very cool about it. He did bring up a good point in that he sees a lot of cars with scratches on the windows from snow scrapers this time of year. That thought never occurred to me, but I can see how that makes sense. It's still a little questionable as to whether a plastic snow scraper could do that to a window, but I don't have a lot of proof that says otherwise. I probably wouldn't have noticed it if my car wasn't clean to begin with. Oh well, something to be careful about moving forward, and I'll probably be able to get those small scratches out with the Zaino.

The Zainos takes out a lot of the little pits from rocks actually...its great

i dont have snow, so i dont know, but even setting a cardboard box on your car, and then sliding it on or off can scratch REALLY bad, I know from experience with my dads old car...he was just a LITTLE angry

If you live somewhere that you get snow a lot, why don't you get one of those large rubber or silicone blades to scrape off the snow, and not a hard plastic one?

Good in theory, but the rubber/silicone ones won't penetrate the snow and ice that freezes on your windshield. You'll end up using the plastic one unless you let your 4R's defroster run for an hour before you leave the house in the AM.

I use toothpaste - plain white, not gel - on my windshields. Have for years. The mild abrasive keeps them looking new - cleans, removes pollen and other stuff that builds up that you can't even see.
