Rear Window Help

I have an 87 4runner SR5 with a 22RE engine, just got the truck, love it, I had an 89 once that got stolen and torched which is why I wanted another one, these are the best little trucks. The one I got, you can tell was originally a northern vehicle, due to the rust on the truck and on the frame. I believe this has seized the rear window switch that you would use the key to roll up and down the rear window from the outside, I have been trying to find this part, but have been very unsuccessful thus far, can anyone tell me that aside from purchasing one from a salvage yard, is this a dealer item only? I have tried to lubricate it and its not breaking at all, I have the same problem with the lock for the gas lid as well, at first I thought the key I had was the wrong one due to the fact that you can pull the key out of the ignition with it running I figured it was the wrong key and the ignition was wore out and would allow any key to start it, but the door locks are working fine with the key I have so Iknow it has to be the correct key. Any help would be helpful. Also.....I changed the oil and my oil gauge is showing continually low oil pressure, I used 10W-30 castrol, were these oil pumps prone to failure or is it possible my sending unit is just out. At highway speeds the oil gauge will show normal oil pressure, but around town it is always extremely low. Thanks

No, "these oil pumps" don't have issues. Does that mean yours didn't go out? Nope. Start with the simple things. Mine had the same symptoms last summer and it was the sending unit. Easy fix.

But, your pump and sending unit aren't the only culprits of low oil pressure. Could be your engine bearings too. When was the last time the bearings were replaced in a rebuild?

Yeah, engine wear will have an effect on pressure.
The gauge on my 84 reads low unless the rpms are high.

In regards to the window switch. Mine was totally toast, dealer wanted ALOT of money for one that wasn't even keyed the same.

Your best option is to buy a lock that has electrical connection on the back. It'll be a different kind of key, ie a tumbler lock is most secure, but you'll be able to roll it up and done with little mod to your wiring. Has to be a 3 position switch/lock combo.

I have 1991 and have the same problem. Where can I find a lock with an electrical connection as you mentioned? Any hints on the wiring? Is this doable even for a non-electrical guy?

I just figured this out last week and still need to buy one. I'll make a write up when I get it done. It'll be real easy, cut a few wires and solder them together or even use crimp connections. Alot cheaper then a whole new OEM lock that wont even be keyed the same as your truck. Igot quoted $100 from the dealer. Cheaper at a junk yard but again wont be keyed the same.

Update on keys

Finally got around to ordering the lock I spoke of a few weeks ago. After talking to a rep about what I needed they pointed me to a (HD4199-MADHWA-1-WIRE) It has a dust cover, will work outside, and comes with an electrical pigtail. It was $34.86 and a third key was $4.07. Takes about two weeks to make it up.
They just got ahold of me today to see if I wanted it keyed the same as another set of keys I already have, cause they can only key it once. Anyone else who tries this may consider talking to them about keying it like our 4runner keys. I hadn't thought of it until they called and asked. I'll assume there is a slight possibility that they can make that happen.

It will likely ship out today. When I get it in I will start a new thread with how to retrofit this beast in!
BTW I haven't had a keyed rear window in about 5 years!


ETA: Dust cover, mechanical door that springs closed, is an additional $2.25. Not included with lock as I thought.
