Rear window opening on it's own?

On several, apparently random instances, I've found my rear window rolled down, apparently on it's own. This has happened while the "lock" button on the drivers' door is pushed down, supposedly preventing the operation of other windows..

Anyone else ever see this ?

Could the button on the fob have been pressed? I can't walk around outside my house for 5 minutes without hearing that stupid thing beep 20 times. Something about the way the fob is designed makes it incredibly easy for the buttons to get pressed while it's in your pocket.

It was common with the 3rd Gen's, as already been said. Usually it's the backdoor ECU that shorts due to water getting in there.

I've attached the TSB for the 3rd Gen, if that may at least shed a little light.

Yeah, it seems I had misread the owner's manual. The key FOB button can roll it down regardless of the status of the rear window lock button on the door. Since this has always happened in cold weather, when I'm liable to be wearing gloves, I'm going to assume I'm nailing the button accidentally.

Owners manual says you have to have the dealer reprogram it to disable that button on the key fob. =(

I wonder if a piece of paper taped between the button contacts might do the same thing? :bash:

Just use a piece of electrical tape.

This happened to me last week in my 04 and has never happened on my 3rd gen. 01. I started the car and thoguht it was quite cold. When I got on the road, I realized my back window was down. I pulled over to see if someone had broken in to get stuff. Nothing was gone, I guess I hit the key accidentally, but I never had this problem with my 01. I thought it odd, but I guess it can happen apparantly to both generations.

IMO, I don't think you're hitting it accidentally. You have to hold the button down for a few seconds before the rear window comes down. Which means you actually have to be holding it down, not hitting it accidentally.

Just use a piece of electrical tape.

Took the fob apart this am.. no contacts, it's a microswitch.
Have to get some sort of small plastic spacer to put over it to prevent the microswitch being pushed.

same thing happened to me. occurred when I was working hunkered over and the pressure on the down window probably lasted a second or two-enough to send the signal. I typically put the fob out of my pocket now........

IMO, I don't think you're hitting it accidentally. You have to hold the button down for a few seconds before the rear window comes down. Which means you actually have to be holding it down, not hitting it accidentally.

Ditto, mine will only roll down after you hold the button down for like 3 seconds continuous or so. Makes one long beep and then the window rolls down. Not something you could really do on accident.

I'd suspect something else is to blame.

This happen to me twice. I found that the key fob was pushig against the a key in by jean pocket.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I was hanging my keys inside a little cabinet, and the button was pushing into one of the hangers when the door was closed. But before I figured it out, I couldn't think of a single valid reason I would want to remotely lower my rear window (please tell me if there is one) so I opened up the fob and scraped away the apparent connection between the battery and that particular switch. Seems to do the trick.
