I purchased this part and my 16 year old son did the replacement (he likes to get practice working on things) in about two minutes. Fits perfect.

I believe the 2 pieces are upper and lower, not inner outer

That is incorrect. There is the Belt weatherstrip that is the outer - part# 6829035031 and it the inner w'strip, part# 6829135021.
Are you talking about the upper run channel?

As mentioned very easy to replace, I did take a little longer than most others when replacing mine because I took the time to clean where it attaches to the lift gate and the lower area of the glass that you can't get too with the belt molding/weatherstrip installed but still done in way less than 10 minutes

That is what happened to me as well. Now I have to go back and have them order the outer Belt-Weather strip. Irritating because I specified to the parts agent that I needed the outer strip. I installed the inner quite easily enough but now I need to figure out how to remove the outer strip.

How did you pop out the outer strip? The inner strip was easy enough but the outer strip is being more difficult to remove. It looks like there are clips on each end but I wasn't sure and since I don't have the replacement part yet I did not want to try too hard since I did not want to damage it.

Just pull it straight up, should come off relatively easy.

Yes, it does take a bit of effort, but once it breaks loose it comes out very easily. I would recommend pulling up each end a bit and working your way to the middle. Once it is out the new one will go back in easily, but be sure that you pay attention to seating it properly around the area of the rear wiper mount. It's not difficult, you just have to pay attention to making sure it clears that area.
I frankly didn't realize early on that mine was bad. It wasn't rotted out like some who have posted pics here. I finally noticed it was torn and that both ends did not go to the end of the rear frame. An easy fix. I also had a rear wiper had too much play because the tab in the middle of the hinge had broken off. I replaced the entire wiper assembly easily by buying a wiper/battery terminal puller at the same time as the wiper assembly. It took less than 10 minutes to do that job as well.

Just an FYI, that belt molding/weatherstrip doesn't keep all water from getting in the rear hatch and it's the same on the doors, it's designed to keep most water out also leaves other debris and bugs out as well as sorta cleaning/wiping the window when you open and close it, there's no way to seal a window that goes up and down to keep all water out that is why the hatch and all doors have weep holes on the bottom of them to allow any water that does get passed the belt to drain out, if you ever hear water splashing around in the hatch or doors it is because the weep holes have become clogged with dirt and debris and they need to be cleaned to allow the water to freely drain out.

That is very correct. I realized this on my wife's Venza when we had a lot of heavy rain over several days and I noticed a sloshing of water in the driver's side door. I felt down under the bottom rubber seal and realized it was gunked up with leaves and seed pods and other junk. As soon as I cleared it, it poured water out of the drain holes. Since then I clear it out every time I wash the car.
I do the same on my 4Runner but have fewer issues with it since it is kept in the garage when not being driven. It is nice to have lots of tree cover and shade over our house and driveway in the summer, but man do those trees create havoc on the vehicles and gutters.
