Rear Window: WARMER when open??

Hello all...

I've got an '05 Limited 4 X 2. I've noticed that when driving at highway speeds with the windows and sunroof open, the incoming air is basically cooler than the air inside the cabin, as one would expect.

But if I lower the rear window to fully vent the cabin, the air that comes in from the rear seems warmer than air coming in from the other open windows. In fact, it makes the whole cabin warmer than before I opened any windows. Closing the rear window cools the cabin right down.

What's the deal with this? Is it some kind of little known law of pysics, or am I sucking in my exhaust?

More importantly, am I crazy or is anyone else experiencing this? And if so, what have you done about it (BESIDES closing the rear window)?

I do believe you are sucking in exhaust... which is why toyota reommends not driving with the rear window down. I do it all the time though.

I only drive with the the rear window down if I have at least 2 of the front windows open to be sure I get air flow thru the cabin.

The air passing around your engine, exhaust and transmission gets warm, and when you open the rear window, that warm air comes into the truck.

Somebody will probably shoot me for broaching this subject again, but wait until the sulfur smell starts kicking in, and then you won't ever WANT to have your back window open.

The never roll down my rear window. I used to use it all the time on one of my old 4runners and the window got so scratched... i dont' really use my sunroof either tho.... climate control all the way
