Rear Window Wont Roll Down

Toyota 4 runner hatchback

My 2001 toyota 4 runner rear lift gate window seems to be stuck, can only crack the the window when button depressed or key inserted.
Any help appreciated
 
I got tired of the overly complicated system Toyota made for the rear window, I just put a 3 position switch going straight to the motor in the console. Used the old power antenae switch since it has Up/Down markings on it.
 


^^^not my picture, but this is how I jumpered my back window on my 87' ...no more problems. This is the plug that goes to the up/down switch in the console. The jumper bypasses all the safety switches, so if the top is off or the tailgate is down it will still operate, but that doesn't really bother me, it's pretty common sense not to mess with the window in those situations.

I'm having the "three beep" message as well. I can roll the rear window up and down with the console switch, but my key doesn't work in the lock, sooooo, I thought I would get back in the guts of the tailgate and take a look at the lock itself. I put the tailgate down, took the back off to access the guts and rolled the window up. Everything looked alright, but now, I can't roll the window back down to close the tailgate. I tried "tricking" the locks on the sides of the tailgate to no avail and now, the interior lock on the tailgate is stuck. Right now, she's sitting there with duct tape to hold the tailgate and window up. Any help would be super appreciated!
 
When we do not see what truck we're talking of, we assume it's an Escalade;
Too ritzy to cover here :)
How could we help you if we don't know which schematic to check, and we don't know whom among us have the same truck as you have??

A problem well-stated is almost solved.
What's 3-beep message?
How did you roll the window up when you took back off?
Did you inspect the wiring in flex harness between body and tailgate? Did you inspect the key switch and wiring?
Got a multi-meter?
 
I recently went through this as well.

Originally I pulled everything off the rear end of my 93. All the panels up to the rear seat, I pulled the trailer harness in and taped it off, and pushed the rear wiper up. The initial fix was jumping the safety circuit on the plug at the rear wiper motor.

I was having issues with my windshield wiper fuses popping because of a short going to the front motor, so if I leave the front motor unplugged, replace the wiper fuse, and all of it works.

So My Recommendations:
Verify your rear wiper is aligned, if not jump the safety on the plug for testing purposes (I can find the two pins to jump I don't have it in front of me)
Verify your fuses are good, it seems everything is running through the front wiper harness and if that fuse goes the entire system doesn't work (Front wipers, rear wipers, rear window, and the rear hatch unlock doesn't work.
I did a bunch of reading and some people were having luck getting the window to roll down with the key and putting it back up to resolve the issue. The thought process being, the rear window wasn't "all the way up" or it didn't kick the safety to acknowledge it's all the way up.

The three beeps sounds like a warning to me (I did not experience the 3 beeps) so I would checkout your safety circuits. The Three I know of are Rear wiper lined up (can be jumped), rear hatch closed, and rear window all the way up.

All wiring was good. Problem was the window was rolled up to the point that it was ALMOST off the tracks. Once I engaged the side latches and tricked it into thinking the tailgate was up and locked, I pushed the button on the console to roll the window up while my hubby shimmied the window a bit to get it to "catch", then it went right down.
Next issue was I couldn't disengage the side lock latches but turns out it was an easy enough fix. While I used a screwdriver to push the latch back, the hubby pulled up on the interior handle and wa-la... problems solved!
 
I installed a new head unit in my 4Runner and now the back window wont roll down with the key. Before putting in the new head unit I could put my key into the lock the hatch and turn and hold it on either side and it would roll up and down, but after the new stereo that function no longer works. So my question is does the wiring of the back window have anything to do with the stock radio?

helps to say what year 4runner you have, but no the window wiring doesn't usually run behind the radio. Hard to say what previous owners have hacked up though
does it work from the switch on your center console? both 1st and 2nd gens have the switch there. Did you remove the center console and run any speaker or amp wiring along the tunnel?

How were your fuses?

Is it possible you have the power window lock on? if so it won't roll down (not sure if that is true for using the key)

I have a 2000, but the power window lock is not turned on, and it works from the button in the center of the dash. The previous owner had it wired for subs and an amp but there was no wiring running along the tunnel. It’s not that big of a deal I was just wondering if the radio had anything to do with the radio.

This is an old thread but I had a problem with my window not rolling down from the button on the console in my '88. It turned out the rear wiper hadn't returned all the way up. I adjusted it, and it may have been coincidence but I haven't had another issue in 6 months.
 
I had this issue with my '88 a few years ago. When using the key, if I banged my fist on the tailgate, it would work sometimes. I had one of our techs check it out (I work at a Toyota dealership), to no avail. The problem went away on it's own...
A year or so later, the problem returned. I had a different tech check it out...he found that the plug to the motor wasn't fully clicked into place. Haven't had a problem since.
 
Rear window

Does anyone here experience this, my 4th gen 4runner rearwindow only rolls down6" inches but it goes up...It wont go all the way down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Made for a very quick fix. This is why I'm here.
 
Maybe this can help someone out..if you remove the top, and replace it, there is a switch that is engaged by putting one of the bolts back ( covered many times )..
However, make sure to use the right bolt (longer) as the shorter bolts will not reach the plunger and engage the switch. EASY FIX. Or just take driver rear inside panel off , unscrew the switch, push plunger by hand to test. Hope it helps anyone...
