rear wiper problems in winter weather

I live in Canada and own a 2005 4Runner SE V8 which I really love! The one real issue I am having with it is that my rear wipers are practically useless in the wintertime. I try to keep them free of ice build-up (which is difficult), but every time I try to clear the rear window the blade actually only wipes clean the very top part of the arch. My husband owns a Chrysler-made vehicle and his rear wiper works perfectly!

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to improve my 4Runner's rear wiper performance?

Is there a particular brand or type of wiper blade that anyone can recommend?

PS: I live in a rural area and drive a lot on snow covered dirst roads.

Currently I'm beginning a mod for the rear wiper that will put more pressure on the window and be able to take a normal wiper with more "pressure points"

Mine did that when I first got it. I would let it run in the on position for a while and after 10 or so wipes it would eventually clean the whole path like it should. Now it wipes it clean on the first pass... weird.

I am not sure, but I bought some Bosch ICON wiper blades that were pretty expensive (20$ plus a wiper blade) that have the curve of a banana, (bracketless), which creates more pressure on the window.

They have a wiper blade called the hindsight but it does not work like the ICON.

I am currently looking for an ICON for the rear, but I am not sure that Bosch makes an ICON wiper for the rear, I will continue to search.

Hey, mine did the exact same thing, works fine now.

Mine does the same thing... If I don't use it for a while, it seems to revert. I think the plastic support on the wiper blade bows when it is resting on the support, but it takes w few wipes to get it to clear the whole path (I usually hear a dull thud when the plastic support relaxes).

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I will try to keep the rear blade running for a while, even if it doesn't seem to be working I will also try to purchase a new blade.

Mine does the same thing in the winter. It is irritating...
