Rearend clunk

I just have an 03 4runner SR5 Sport V8. It has a clunking noise coming from the backend when you take off after stopping. It does not do it every time. Any thoughts on what it could be? I can't figure it out

Thanks

Do a search on "clunk" and I think you will find many, many threads on the subject. It is a known problem that seems to happen more often after hard braking to a stop. I think there is a TSB of fix for the Lexus GX, but nothing for the 4runner. Some I have read say you can reduce the problem by making sure the rear slip yoke is filled with grease.

I don't think it has ever led to part failure, just very annoyed owners.

Change your driving/stopping habits by easing off the brake for the last few feet of a stop (adjust your deceleration and stopping distance) plus grease the slip joint in the drive shaft more often.

clunk

I will try greasing it and see if it makes a difference.
Thanks for all your input.
Will let you know if it works.

I greased all the fittings on the drive line. It still clunks once in a while. I am going to give it a little more grease. I think that will do the job.
