So my fiance thought she'd be nice and take my 4Runner and get the oil changed for me for my birthday. I usually do it myself, but it being cold as s#*! outside, she took it to Jiffy Lube. I came home and she told me about what she did. I went outside to double check, and am I glad I did. The morons that changed the oil did not put the filler cap back on! There was oil all over the driver side of the engine bay. I called Jiffy Lube, told them about the problem, and of course they said it wasn't their fault...f$&@*# morons! I went to autozone and got a replacement cap, and double checked everything else. Doesn't look like any debris got into the engine. Just a heads up to anyone thinking of going to one of those places.

Ya...thing is I had her ride at work replacing a window motor. She was trying to be nice, but she now knows to never take either of our vehicles to a place like that!

Its just baffling to me how someone can not put the filler cap back on. How stupid are these guys?!?! Luckily nothing happened to the engine, or there would be a story on the nightly news about a guy beating the hell out of a Jiffy Lube crew!

I would still go back and raise hell and get something in writing admitting fault. IF debris did get into the crankcase and something goes sour within the next week they need to be held responsible.

Man, my Jiffy Lube is AWESOME! I am sorry your experience sucked.

I don't like changing my oil. The dealer does it for $15 if I bring my own oil/filter, which I think is cheaper than my hour of time, my mess in my garage, and disposing of the oil.

Anyway, before I know the dealer did this I took my 1st gen to my local Jiffy Lube and they found my drain plug was stripped. SO they extracted it (took about an hour) gave me a new one, since it was their fault (or so they said) and changed my oil for free!

Another time they got lazy and didn't remove my skid plate, so my skid plate filled up with oil and leaked all over my garage. Called them up (it's like 1000m away) and they send a guy TO MY HOUSE with their spray degreaser stuff to clean my garage floor, and my skid plate.

Another time I brought them my fuel filter (I am lazy, I know) and since they had already cashed out their register or whatever, they did it for free.

One time Speedee (quick lube change) in South Carolina forgot to put the oil pan drain plug and my friend's engine lasted about 100 miles until it seized. It helped that her uncle was an attorney.

My GF knows never to touch my cars or bring them anywhere for maintenance. Her BMW, however, goes to the dealer.

that sucks... are you in INDY? I've used the one on 82nd and allisonville before with good results, they even fixed my windshield chip for me free of charge, the one in carmel on Rangeline isn't bad either... I only go in times like this (winter) when it's 13 out and snowing.

Ya I'm in the southeast side. The one she went to is actually only 1/2 a mile away. It's always hit or miss with those kind of places. I work at Marian Univ. and we have a heated 6 bay garage that I usually use for working on vehicles. Where are you located? You're about the only other person I've seen on here from Indy.

ya I don't think there are many of us... don't know about you but I get jealous / tired of seeing all these awesome pics of other 4runners out west, meeting up and hitting the trails etc... but hey we do have the super bowl this year and the track, so I guess it's not all bad hahaa. Oh and I'm in broad ripple. ps I did just hear about this place down south called haspin acres, ever heard of it??? maybe we could have a meet up like the guys out west do, all two of us

Ya it sucks seeing all these built up rigs with all these places to wheel. I actually used to live in B Ripple...52nd and College. Im only about 10 min away from there now. I haven't heard of the place you mentioned, but I'm always down for a trip. After my wedding and grad school I plan on doing some upgrades. I do love going to the track at racetime, but I will be getting far away during the Superbowl...I've actually listed my house to rent during that weekend.

Oil changes are one of the maintenance items I still go to Toyota for (I hate dealing with oil and stuff in my driveway), however I recently switched to a closer dealer and was more than a bit pi**ed off to find that they didn't drop my skid plate like the other dealer used to. Oil was all in my plate and dripping onto my driveway. They claim that this is so they can fulfill their '30 minutes or free' policy. I told them I don't give a s**t whether they take an hour, just do it right!

renting your house out... wow I saw people were doing that on the news and making tons of cash doing it. Ha I live about 4 blocks from "the strip" and they are going to close off the streets here in the next few weeks and just let everyone party. You will be "allowed to" walk around with your beer and party in the streets... its going to be crazy for sure.

its amazing that so many Jiff Lubes are crap! no matter where you go.. Well with the one exception from A.Wilson.

I refused to ever take my cars there again but broke down and had them do an inspection for State and I/M cause it was there, they were waiving the sign, yada yada. After i saw them do all kinds of negligent crap to my truck like sticking the floor jack under my skid plate to jack it up, that was it for me. They tried to tell me it wouldn't harm anything, but i got out of there quick.

Its really just a bunch of non certified techs who get paid $8.00 an hour doing the same thing over and over, so of course there not going to pay attention and take care of your rig. Sorry that happened man. hopefully no damage was done

I'm a little late to the game on this thread but I have to ask why would bring your own oil filter into the dealer?

I assume you are not walking in with a real Toyota filter. The reason I bring it up is because I once saw a display that featured a) the Toyota filter b) FRAM filter for Toyota side by side.

As soon as I saw what a FRAM looks like on the inside, I swore I would only use the factory oil filters. Sorry but I love my engine too much to use a FRAM (or like) filter.

it amazes me how they think its not there fault when you just so happen to have a filler cap when she drove it there. cause there would have been the same mess you got to see when they were done.
