Reasonable asking price for my 4Runner

So i purchased this limited 4Runner last month and have added a Toytec lift, brush guard, new tires, new radio, new speakers, tint and other things in the past 2 two weeks. It has 89k miles and is 2WD. I thought I would be okay with having a 2WD but I almost got stuck on our hunting land last weekend and decided I do need a 4WD. I've listed it on craigslist for $14,750 since it has low miles and upgrades. What do you think it will sale for and am I asking too much?

Wow, WAY too much. First, you can bling it up all you want, it's still 2WD. Second, miles aren't that relevant on a 15+ year old truck.

Stock, that's maybe a $4000 truck, and that only if it's in incredible condition (and your truck does look nice, so that's possible). You never get your money back on mods, but since they're newish you could maybe add 2/3rds their market value to the truck, figure on $5500 or $6000, but only that if the truck is basically immaculate AND you find the right guy - not many buyers out there looking for a super clean 2WD modded 4Runner.

Do this - spend $300 or so on a lunchbox locker for the rear, then get rid of the silly brush guard and watch Craigslist for a deal on a winch bumper and winch. The locker will add tremendously to your traction on muddy back roads, and the winch will let you get yourself out if you do get stuck, and you might find that with a couple actually functional mods you might be ok with the 2WD.

Your alternatives are to come WAY down in price (and take a bath, I assume), or buy a junk 4WD and do the swap. Good luck.
 
Why would you throw a bunch of money into mods and only then try it out offroad and decide that 2WD is inadequate?:smash:

I'd say $4k with the mods is reasonable, not having 4wd just totally kills it IMO. So you're about $10k too high.
 
That's what I was thinking... I had someone offer me a trade deal yesterday for his 06' Tacoma PreRunner, 4dr with 100k miles but it isn't 4WD. I've got two guys that want to look at it in the next few days. Looks like I will have to drop the price or just sit on it for awhile hoping I can get lucky.
 
How bad is the 4WD conversion? I looked it up after I first bought it but I dont really want to throw another 2-3k in it for that.
 
U can just get a e locker rear there's a video somewhere with a 2wd doing everything with a e locker. Good luck.
 
First, let me say that it's a nice looking truck that would seem to be in above average condition. The 2WD absolutely kills the value of it though. The 3rd gen has developed a cult following, but it's largely due to the combination of off road capability and reliability, so the demand is all for 4WD.

Your market is going to be for someone who's looking for reliable transportation for reasonable money, not someone who's looking for a lifted truck with nice tires. Your best bet is probably to remove the modifications and sell them, and sell the truck stock.

I'm don't follow the market for 2WD as much as I do 4WD but I'd be surprised if you can get more than $9k for it, and only that much because of the low mileage and condition.

If you get $14k for it you've found a sucker.
 
I just don't get it...

Why did Toyota make these? It was deceptive to label it a 4Runner. Is it a 3.4L? 14K is way way above market, sorry.
 
lol, it is a bit high just wasn't sure what people would pay for it. Crazy thing is I have two people interested and one who wants to trade a nice tacoma for it. I may take the guy up on the tacoma.
 
You spent all that money on mods on a 2WD a month after you bought it?
My 2 cents?
Remove everything you added and put it back to stock.
Sell it for $5-6 k, buy a 4WD and put the stuff on the "new" 4Runner.
Lick your wounds, have a beer,cigar and chock it up to experience.

this may be my plan. I'll let it sit for sale another week or two and if it doesn't sale I'll just either drop the price dramatically or take everything off and sale it stock.
 
Get the Tacoma and sell or trade it for a 4 wheel drive 4runner .....check out craiglist there's a nice 4 wheel drive 4runner for sale last I looked.

That's my 13' limited 4wd, she's a beauty but I don't want it to get all scratched up. This older 4Runner will be mostly just for taking in the woods and playing around at the farm. I'm thinking I should trade the guy with the 06' Tacoma and just try and sell it after I get it. I may meet him and take a look at it this weekend. That would probably be my best bet.

Because not everybody hunts, goes "muddin," lives in Montana with all the amazing scenery or goes camping. I would've loved a 4WD, but would've spend too much money on mods and lifts and would've never used it. In Tampa, my 2WD does just what I need it too, gets me around in rain and rough roads and never lets me down. Just different strokes for different folks I guess.

I'd buy your 4Runner, just not for that price. With it being that clean and mods, I would've paid around $6000 since most mods would be wasted on me.
