It was a quick and easy process, pretty much; hard part being removing the leftover goo and cutting the new double-sided tape to fit.
I used fishing line to remove the emblems and then as a straight edge for reinstallation. Masking tape and a pencil played a big role, in holding the fishing line in place on both sides of the tailgate and for marking where the centerline of each letter would be.
Where I placed the letters, it measured exactly 55" across the tailgate, so the first letter "N" I centered at 27.5". From the 27.5", I measured 4.1" to the center of every other letter, marking a dot @ 4.1" on each piece of masking tape you can see going across the tailgate. After that, I stuck the double-sided tape onto each letter and eyeballed their centers with the dots on each piece of masking tape. Voila, it's done and I think it looks pretty decent.
Note: I used 3M's "Molding Tape". It's a 1/2" x 60" roll from Walmart for about 6-ish bucks. It actually looks a lot like the tape I removed from the old letters...maybe it's the same...
