rebuild first start pressure lube howto?

I'm getting close and I will be dropping in my rebuild this weekend. hopefully.

as per the rebuilders specs planning on starting with Lucas Oil 10631 SAE 30 High Zinc Engine Break-In Oil for the first 500 miles.

the last time I replaced an engine it was a chev 350 into a 3/4 ton 1972 C20 so it's been while. I borrowed a special drill attachment from somebody and was able to pressure prime the engine with oil before first start up.

never done this with a 5VZ

so if I leave the plugs out and get everything to the point where I can crank it over. do I just use the starter to turn it over until the oil light goes out? I never really noticed if it does this or if the oil light just stays on until it's running.

anybody have experience with a pressure lube on a 5VZ

thanks

wow that's shiny awesome. looks great. so I hope someone who has experience with the 5vzfe engine jumps in. the way you described is how i did it almost 12 years ago on a 2001 supra 2jz engine. to prime the pump we cranked it using the starter without the sparkplugs and not sure about the oil light. congratulations.

You don't need brake in oil for a overhead cam engine In my opinion.

Pre fill the oil filter and squirt oil in the holes of the filter mount. That will put oil into the pump cavity.

Pull the ECU fuse and crank engine till the oil light goes out and stop.

Repeat 3 times. That's what I do if I can't prelude like you can with a engine that has a distributor that drives the oil pump.

I agree but yotashop calls it out expressly in their instructions. So I’m running break in oil.

Yes I will fill up the oil filter, will also just add a small drop into each cylinder.

But plugs out right? I did not think about just pulling the ecu fuse. Good idea.

I will relax once she fires up and purrs without any terrible sounds.

This last part always puts me on edge.

you've done really well and yeah nerve racking for sure, I would be that way too but surely excitment and adrenaline will follow. take your time with the break-in and you would do just fine. I've seen your work and it's darn impressive.

Plugs out raises the starter RPM.

If the shop that did the work calls for break in oil than use it for warranty purposes for sure.

Squirting oil in the oil filter base holes helps prime the pump.

You don't have to worry about breaking I the cam. So take it out and drive it and load the engine.

If you have mountains climb one in the first 20 miles. That will help bed the rings in before all the flashing gets rubbed off the cylinder walls. Of you don't have mountains then do ten 30mph to 60mph accelerations at 3/4 throttle coasting from 60 to 30. That will bed in the rings and keep your intake clean of blow bye crap.

Pull the EFI fuse or unplug the cam and crank sensors. Either way will work. You just need to keep the fuel injectors from firing.

Cranking enough to get the oil light to go out a couple times should be plenty. I wouldn't even worry about filling up the oil filter - you are cranking under no load and the engine has assembly lube on the important parts.
