Rebuild worth it or not?

I'm currently looking into buying a wrecked 3rd gen to swap the motor trans and computer into my 2nd gen 2door.

I have found a wrecked 98 that still has a complete motor, harness trans and ecu that the owner is looking to get around $400 for the parts i need or $800 for the whole truck.

Would it be worth the money to rebuild this motor (he claims it "threw a rod")? Not sure of the milage but does that really matter if it is going to be rebuilt.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

If it "threw a rod" what's to say he didn't drive for miles and miles after it happened and marred crap out of the cylinder. I'm sure you looked for obvious things such as holes in the block. It's a big risk but then again, you are getting most of the swap for $400. See if the guy will/let you pull the head off. Just a thought.
