rebuilding a 22re. more HORSE POWER NEEDED

I have a 22re that the head gasket is starting to go. i want to rebuild it with more power. any suggestions?

I herd some where that you can put 22r head on the 22re block, put your 22re intake and exhaust on. and you get more power.

Is this fact or fiction?
also any other tips for a rebuild would be good.
-metal guides for the timing chain.

Fact/Fiction an 80-84 22r head will give you more power but there are costs with doing this because the head doesn't fit exactly correct you need to perform some machining to get it to fit. Its combustion chamber is different causing the compression to jump. 85+ 22r will bolt right up but you will see no difference in power. I suggest you put some high compression pistons in and buy a cam from a performance company such as D.O.A. racing or the best route would be to buy a turbocharger and slap that on forced induction is great plus a turbo is free horsepower unlike crank driven superchargers hope i didn't step on toes. I have a built 22re if you are inrerested. Good luck

No matter what you do to it, it will still be a 22RE. I did quite a bit to mine when I had it apart and even though it should be about 10hp stronger it still runs just like it did. It just feels like it's having a good day all the time now. It's up to you how much you want to spend on it.

This is probably the best writeup I've seen on the 22RE. Ted is a great guy/vendor to deal with, and he really knows his stuff.
