Rebuilt 3rd gen door stoppers - $100

Hey fellas,

Inspired by Timmy's door stopper repair video I got a set of OEM door stoppers from a 3rd gen and rebuilt them with the kit from mother Russia.

The materials used in the rebuild kit are superior to OEM since they are MOS2 filled plastic -- they will wear longer and be smoother through their life.

I figured this would save one of ya'll some time. I will need you to send your old stoppers back to me so I can rebuild another set for the next person. No really -- I need the cores back for real!

I'll prelube the stoppers and you can add more to the rods with your favorite dry lube or basic grease if you need. This set will do both front doors and both back doors.

Asking $100 (paypal F&F) + return of your old ones

Old plastic stopper pieces vs. new ones

I'll send along the bottle of moly lube so you can apply more to the stopper rod as you see fit. This set will do both front doors and both back doors.

Asking $100 + return of your old ones (I'll cover shipping which oughta be about $8-9)

After seeing Timmy's video and being rather lazy by nature, this is tempting!

What's the longest period of time anyone has used these kits from MR?

We have a general idea how long OEM lasts, but I'm wondering if MR's will last as long?

GLWS,

Eddie

I'm not sure how to know or estimate this. But based on my knowledge of engineering polymers I expect it to outlive the OEM material. I imagine relubricating on occasion helps prolong the life.

Nice thing is, once your door stoppers have had their spot welds drilled out it would be easy to pull them and swap the plastic bits again lets say in 5-10 years. Drilling out the welds is what takes the time. I got a nice little setup on my drill press that let me get it done pretty cleanly.

Hi folks,

I just wanted to throw it out here that I have now done a good handful of these door stoppers and would be happy to rebuild a set for you. I can also do a partial set (such as only the front doors).

To make the switcheroo easier my idea is to send you a rebuilt set and then you return your cores. I'm still waiting on R3Z3N to return his cores (ahem) so we can get back on track.

However, if you want to find a good junkyard set and ship 'em to me to rebuild we can do that too.

I try to keep 1-2 repair kits on hand all the time.

Hey guys,

I've done a few more of these door stopper repairs for friends and forum members. It's a fun repair to do and I'd like to do more of them. I ordered a handful of kits to have on hand and should have a couple of sets of cores available. I should be able to do a simple core return in most cases now -- I'll send you a remanned set and then you send your old ones back to me after you do the install. I'm debating including a core fee (probably $60 or so) that I would refund after I get your cores back based on an isolated negative experience, but that could be on a case-by-case basis.

Also, sometimes the rubber bushings on the end of the rod deteriorate and there is no new replacement for these available. Some cleve folks have found these bushings on other Toyota vehicles (Camrys, etc.) and swapped them over held on with a zip tie which seems to work well. Personally I am running a couple stops with halfway busted bushings and honestly it doesn't make much difference... I think they are important when the checks are worn out and the door is allowed to swing open freely and has to stop with a lot of momentum. With fresh door check installed the door just doesn't do this anymore so you'd have to push the door to it's full open position and really try to force it beyond that for the bushings to matter.

Here's a recent overhaul. Set of cores and an install kit

Interested in picking up a set of these if you still have them available. Sent you a PM

If anyone is in need of this repair, which I assume most are, I highly recommend Jordan. He rebuilt my checks and the difference is amazing. Many thanks Jordan!

Thanks my friend! It was fun doing this project with you and I’m super glad you’re happy with them.

For those interested:

1) the kits don’t come with a bottle of lube anymore so I’m not including the bottle shown in the pictures, though I will prelube the inserts and the stopper rod during the rebuild.

2) I had the chance to inspect my drivers door inserts after using them for 1.5 years. No appreciable wear was evident showing me that these upgraded inserts will indeed last many years of use.

Bump... still doing these and have kits in stock. I just recently installed a set on a friend's truck that had very worn stoppers and it made a huge difference!

Commenting so I can find this later. I’ll be sending you a PM to get a set in the next month or two.
