Recoating/painting Sliders

Currently, the paint on my sliders had been chipping off and has been rusting.

When I first got the sliders I sanded them down and cleaned them when acetone whipped them down again, primed them and then applied a few coats of duplicolor bed liner (which sucks in my opinion). Last year I when back though the same process and they had been badly chipped up only to have it happen again.

So right now I'm dissappointed with the duplicolor liner and I need some other opinions on paint to repaint them and too take care of the rust.

What would you all recommend?

These products are what I'm considering:

POR-15
Herculiner
3M Rubberized (had fairly good luck with in on my last 4runner)
Duplicolor crap since it's already on them and just live with it

What you all recommend for the rust? I'll be sanding the sliders down the best I can by hand (I don't have power tools) and reprimering them but I want to try and get rid of the rust.

Ive heard that Line-X is better than Herculiner, Ive thought about doing that to mine (once I get them welded on)

apparently POR-15 is UV sensitive. i would stay away from that because sunlight will cause it to peel

just my opinion.

Both sets of sliders I have ever owned were powder coated and held up well.

Small scratches can be easily touched up with paint and from a distance you can not even tell.

Ther is a UV protective coat that needs to be put on POR-15 that is constantly exposed. I have had good luck with any paint over the top of the POr-15.

I think I'm leaning towards heculiner since it's eaiser to get locally.

they are sliders and should be scratched. I would choose rattle can liner.... that way you can just touch them up or not

i vote for sand, por-15, then what ever line-x type stuff you can get in a can...

i think it maybe to late to powder coat unless they are bolt on sliders you have to bake powder coat, beyond that sand most of the rust out as you can por-15 to contain the stuff you can't see and then one of the liner type things you can buy in a can for touch ups and to keep little chips at bay, then again like others have said they are sliders and they are going to take some hits here and there so unless your out there every other day with rattle can little chips are just a part of life.

I agree, rattle canning them is the best. Their purpose is to look ugly and protect the body. Powder coating is expensive and is the hardest to touch up too. Making sure your sliders look nice and pretty is kinda defeating the purpose IMO. I say beat the shit out of 'em and spray em down once or twice a year.

Well, I just went ahead and cleaned them up some sanded, rust inhibitor/conveter stuff, self etching primer and then just used some 3M Rubberized coating. It sprays on thicker than the duplicolor crap. I did 2 coats of each.
