Any recommendations for a portable, 12v capable air compressor? Looking for something light/medium duty for topping of tires after a day in the sand, inflating air mattreses for camping, etc, etc, etc.

Would definately be interested in hearing more about it.
Don't know if you found a compressor or not, but check with your local welding shop, Airgas, or Richmond Oxygen and see if you can buy an old 10 or 15lb CO2 bottle and have them fill it. I get about 40 fills from a 20lb on 285/70-17 from 15 to 38lbs. You can get a preset 100psi regulator from them for 50 bucks and refills cost about 5 bucks. Great for tires and lockers, get a cheap battery inflator for your air mattress.

what about this one for a pump. Hrbor Freight has quite a few of this model and at 150psi, I would think that it would do the trick, even possible mounting under the hood as well?????

I recommend this one: Amazon.com: Master Flow MF-1050 Tsunami High Volume Portable Air… Its pretty fast too!

Many of us purchased this (or a very similar) unit a few years back when they hit the shore. Aside from a unique connector, these are solid compressors for the money. I have used mine regularly for the past four years. Unlike some of the '"toy" compressors that will take 10 - 20 minutes to inflate a single 32 - 33" tire , this unit is fairly powerful and will rapidly inflate your large SUV tires.

I've got this too. Also served me well, it powers a crockpot and TV at tailgates.I wouldn't go with a straight air compressor, seems silly to use up space in the truck when other things do a lot more in about the same size device.

Anyone try one of these? They seem to have a lot going on but if it works as advertised and doesn't take 20 mins to fill a tire it could end up on my Christmas list.

I've had a Viair for many years... it's never done me wrong. Fits in a small case and is very compact.
I have had a couple of these. They work really well when they work. Harbor Freight has great customer service so when / if it fails they will give you another.

Another vote for Black+Decker. You can consider this to buy this air compressor. Good one. I have seen a few other lists of compressors. Here are the best air compressors for home use. I like this list because most of them are affordable. But, If you believe in the quality then stick with Black+Decker.
