I was always a fan, and I've had one for a short time, something like a 4400 model, and didn't have issues, but just doing some research, came along this.

I'm not a pioneer fan, they just work. It's a unit for the average Joe. No frills just works like buying a Honda. You want more you buy a Kenwood or alpine that's s Mercedes or BMW. I'd rather buy a entry level high end than a top model low end. Best Honda <cheapest Mercedes. Example accord < c250
The Kenwood I quoted had a rebate till the end of the year if bought from a authorized retailer.
I had the Kenwood DPX791BH installed a few weeks ago and it is amazing. It was $180 but the JBL cable was an extra $60. If you do it yourself crutchfield includes the cable. I don't have a garage so installing a radio in th snow just didn't sound like fun.
What jbl cable? Are you talking about the interface to turn the amp on? Man you need a garage to install stuff? Lol, you have to experienced anything yet, try installing alarm teenie start on site outside in the snow, rain, pitch darkness at 10 degrees haha.I've done it and it makes me a better installer. I can do remote starts on average in 35 minutes for most cars. Soldered and 3m taped. Now I'm in the south I don't have the cold to worry about.
A experts advice, that's me. Take it how ever you wish. I don't want to get into a debate over this and that.
Walk into the best shop in your area and poke and prod the unit you interested in. Check their reviews, installs, etc, warranty, then buy what you like. Opinions are like @Sholes , everyone has one. Mine are each l especially big lol. That comment is not directed at anyone, just a statement! You really need to see what fits you. These units have gotten so cheap and powerful. Buy a new unit, set a realistic budget including labor and parts is around $1200 to 1500. Using the money saving technique of putting the week number amount into a jar every week will get you around $1350 by the end of the year. Week 1, $1. Week 15, $15 bucks, week 36, $36 etc.
Old stuff is what it is, old. Someone mentioned a f700bt, that unit is probably 7 or 8 years old. I hated that unit but it did what it needed to. Pioneers first version with navigation on flash memory, so many crashes, reboot loops ugh the nightmares. Versus today next stuff is super cool units. Loads of good stuff around the 500 to 700 mark, 700 could get you a Kenwood navigation unit worth 2 year warranty, USB, HD, radio and satellite radio (free with rebate) touch screen Bluetooth that supports a2dp streaming. Depending on your year of 4 runner you can add a idatalink maestro that pulls up vehicle diagnostics on the radio screen idatalink.maestro.com
