Recommended Maintenance Schedule

Does anyone know where I can locate the recommended maintenance for a 4th gen 4runner? For example, oil change is recommended every 5k miles. How about belts? Raidator flush? Air filter? Transmission fluid? etc. Obviously, it all depends on where and how you drive your vehicle but does Toyota have a recommendation for any of these? I don't want to ask them when I go get an oil change because I fear that they will tell me that I need to get all of that done NOW and will try to rip me off. Thanks in advance for any help you all can provide.

Thanks for the welcome. I've got to say that this site is amazing. And also very costly. Ever since I started reading some of the threads, it has put me in the poor house, hehe.

Look in your glove box for the Maintenance handbook. It is a small manual like your warranty manual. It lists maintenance intervals for everything you mentioned except the accessory drive belt (I will change mine around 3 years, $15-20 for a belt is cheap insurance. JMO). Make sure you read it carefully some things changed from year to year like radiator fluid change, spark plugs ect... V-6 or V-8 makes a difference on things also. Don't just take all the post here as gospel. We are all a very opinionated bunch here.

Just got home. The Guide should titled:

2005 (or what ever year you have)
Scheduled Maintenance Guide
Passport to Performance.


It is proably just tucked in the black cover your manual is in. If you didn't pull out all the stuff it could be easily overlook.

New owner, but higher mileage maintenance question

Hi there,

I just purchased a used 2005 4Runner with 133,000 miles. The car had a clean carfax, no accidents. Used lot from an Acura dealer.

1. The Check Engine light + VSC Trac + VSC off + car with traction control lights showed up the day after I bought it.

I went to the nearest Toyota dealer and replaced the fuel cap. Cleared out the codes and they have not re-appeared for 140 miles. Should be OK right or do I need more time?

2. The maintenance schedule that came with vehicle from Toyota goes up to 120,000 miles. My cars as 133k, is there a maintenance schedule (official or unofficial) beyond 120k?

Sounds like they cleared the codes (didn't fix anything) and sold it to you. May want to give them a call. There is a way to check if the codes were cleared and not fixed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5M5ZoOZqoA
